  • Upright bass

I've recently stumbled across a project where upright bass samples are pretty much imperitive.

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare VSL's upright bass with acoustic samples, theupright?

From the demos I've heard from both, I think I'm in favour of the vsl version, but I have a few questions about it before I ineviteably give over my money :-)

On general sustained notes, how many velocity layers are we looking at?

(I think I know this already) are there harmonics included?

When I get above 100 or so in terms of velocity, does the slap sound initiate automatically, or are the slap sounds on a seperate patch?

    Many Thanks

    Joe

  • my favourite sampeled acoustic basses are the spectrasonics trilian, orangetreesamples and vsl. i like to use the vsl most because of it's light system resources. as all of the vsl stuff it needs a little room to get alive. but i never counted the velocity layers.

  •  The Upright bass has up to 3 velocity layers

  • Still one of my favorite examples for the Vienna Uprigh Bass in a jazz-trio context:
