Please help, music producer student that doesnt knows with which library start...
Hi. I'm a music production student and I want to buy a library but i don´t know where to start, my options are: -Special Edition Vol. 1 Essential Orchestra -Appasionata Strings I For know I can only afford one... Which will you recomend me? I have other doubts.. Does the strings from special edition Vol. 1 sound fake?? I can afford the special Edition Vol. 1 Essential Orchestra and the string sections from Vol. 2 for getting the appasionata strings also, but i think that the appassionata version in the vol. 2 is very poor sounded and with only 2 articulations.. I don't know where to start but i want to invest in a library(ies). Thanks for your help!! :)

Welcome...
Nothing manufactured or sampled by VSL sounds fake..... Nothing.
The place to start is indeed Special Edition Vol 1. Many here began with this.
As for Appassionata Strings, they are not available in Vol 1 but Solo and Orchestral Strings are with many key articulations.
The point here is, Special Edition Vol 1 offers a nice sampling of a great many instruments.

Special Edition Vol. 1 is an AMAZING way to start. Here is an example I created using (mostly) SE Vol. 1. The violins were created using the Dimension Violins. Pretty much everything else was used from the Special Editions. Enjoy! http://soundcloud.com/jeffstrongmusic/the-weekly-volcano-press

Another Special Edition Vol. 1 recommendation. It will give you all the essential instruments of a full orchestra. From there, you can eventually branch out into other SE editions or start acquiring full collections. The software player will be the same, regardless. Thus, SE is a great way to get familiar with VSL's approach.
VSL is far, far more flexible than what the competition offers. You can use SE for a wide variety of musical styles, and not be limited to the main style of the out-of-the-box type libraries.
Depending on your setup and intended use, you may want to take a look at VE Pro 5. More long-term, many here on the forum use some version of MIR, but that would not be in your budget at this point. It is not uncommon for VSL users to start with SE 1, and then get either chamber strings or AP strings as a first full strings library.
Last, the samples in SE are the most essential samples taken from the full collections. While the velocity layers are often fewer, and the samples are a whole step apart rather than for every half step, the samples are identical to what is in the full collections (VSL does offer a discount on the extended portion of the full libraries for those who have previously bought Special Edition libraries).
