  • This is really exciting.  The sound is awesome - total realism.   The Dimension approach is another innovation by VSL that is simply revolutionary.  I think the size of these ensembles is perfect since the complexity of string timbre actually INCREASES with a smaller ensemble.   This is just the right compromise between largeness of sound and transparency.  Also, as mentioned in the info, the older libraries can all be combined in various layering approaches for an even greater number of possibilities.

O.K., I'm forcing myself not to check this download any more today - well, at least not this hour...

  •  One other thing.  People have regularly been layerng Appassionata with solo for the added complexity and expression.  Just think about this combined with Appassionata!   AND solo....   [:O][:P][:D][8-|][Y]

Hi FredB, could you make some short demo for listening? Especially 8 players ensemble and some with 2nd violin. Thanks

Unfortunatly, I can't for the moment. I'm busy on a (non-orchestral) project for the next 2 days and the setup I use now is too different. But it will be a pleasure to do it after that if nobody else have done it.

Hi FredB that's OK. How does the 8 violins ensemble sound? Some says this library sound a little thin. What do you think? And based on it sounds, can it be used alone or should have to be layered with some other string library?

  • Thanks, Paul... any update on this yet?

I'm 24 hours in with what is typically a VERY fast connection, and am still only at 41%.

I've got a deadline for tomorrow on a project that's just begging for this library!  :-)

  • 15% for me....

All I can say is that it sounds like 8 players. I have done some recordings with 8 players before (4VL1, 4VL2,3VA,2VC,1CB) with overdubs, and with good programming I think it will sounds as good as that.

And keep in mind that this is just the Violin part of the collection, the thinnest section...

I  like this sound alone for many of my personnal project. but I presume it will blend well with other library, specialy those recorded by VSL and mixed inside MIR. But even without MIR it should do it.

Something else that have been improved is that the Vib/non-Vib crossfade is really better than older libraries. And the 4 layers velocity X-fade is smoother too.

  • Would be very very very happy to know, when the EARLY BIRD will dying.

    (poor bird sniff...)

  • At these download speeds the early bird special will be over before I recieve my Violins...   [^o)]

  • Download speed is terrible, I was at 33% after 2 days... have to reboot the computer and it's going back from zero, now transfer rate is also zero???

    VSL, are you there?

    Sonny

  • Oh boy, not good. I have to take my laptop with me tonight. So I'll have to start the download all over again?

  • I afraid download manager will not support continue download once it quit.

    Sonny

  • I don't advise that. I tried it a few times and it cut the download speed in half and reduced the number of servers from 4 to 2.

  • oops, my bad, My download actually continued from 33% ... just let it verify the downloaded contents in few minutes

Sorry and happy Dimention guys, can't wait!

    Sonny

  • 0.3%, and only three days and seven hours left.

Hmm. What's this book? I'll give it a read. " â€œWell, Prince, Genoa and Lucca are now no more than private estates of the Bonaparte family...."

    0.4%

  • Yeah this is very bad... 4 hours only 5% downloaded.

And unless I missed it, VSL has remained silent in this regard.

We can only hope they are addressing it quietly, behind the scenes.

If you want to be identified as a modern download company, you must deploy BIG BOY SERVERS........

  • Sure it would be nice to have everything faster, but I can deal with a long download time, because its still faster than getting DVDs by mail.

The main thing is - this is the most awesome string library on the planet!  Nothing else touches this.  Now available.  I am already doing a notation file in Finale for it.  VSL has gone beyond anything else in existence... again.

  • Hello William,

I've bought into the instant gratification that downloads provide.  [:)]

I agree with you one hundred percent it is all about these groundbreaking samples.

The possibilities are wonderful. The layering breathtaking. And when used with older String Libs it's fresh DNA at once.

I've now watched the video a couple of times, and whilst I find some of the tone a little strident, I don't think that it's something I can't deal with fairly easily. I also think that it's so cheap that I should just get it anyway. In some respects it might replace Chamber Strings in my template, as that Collection is often used for layering with Appassionata (and Orchestral at times), and I think that DS will probably do a better job.

You're one of the few who know how!

  • Are the posted sample content " articulations" is the finale list ?
