  • VEP loading time in Cubase

    Hi guys,

I'm using VEP 5 with Cubase. My orchestral template has only 3 instances of VEP loaded (each with 9 active and 7 inactive stereo returns). That template takes me 4:30 (!) to open; it's reaaally annoyingly long. Without the VEP instances it takes 5 seconds to load. – Each VEP instance I remove saves me 1:15 of loading time.

This seems really long, given that the VEP client doesn't have to load any samples. Is there anything wrong with that loading time or is there any way for the VEP client instances to load quicker?

    I'm on i7, 975@3.33 GHz, Windows 7, Cubase 6.5, VEP 5.1.11262, x64 all the way.

    Thanks in advance,

    Stefan

  • Hi Stefan,

Check your MIDI Port Settings.... The more you have, the longer Cubase will need to instantiate (VST3 has to establish all possible controller connections for each MIDI Port).

    Hope that helps.

  • Paul -  would a work around to use VST2 + Event Input rather than VST3 and normal VSLEP Midi?

  • It would, but it also introduces an extra buffer of latency. I would recommend using the VST3 plugin and setting the MIDI inputs to a maximum that is sensible.

  • Posted the same issue in a Cubase forum –

Apparently Cubase has a certain bug that slows down the loading time of any VEP instances with more than 8 MIDI ports exponentially!!

I tried replacing my 3 VEP instances (each 32 MIDI ports) by 6 instances with 8 ports each and loading time dropped to 40 seconds!!

    Cool. Thanks for the hint!

  • if you decouple VE Pro from Cubase, Cubase is not charged with the loading. This will be quicker.

  • He's referring to another issue, where the VST3 version of the VE Pro Server Interface plugin takes a long time to initialize the more MIDI input ports are set in the preferences. This doesn't depend on decoupling.
