Creating a Template
What is the right way to create a template for strings solo? One scenario is to select an articulations needed for each work. Of corse, it can't be saved as a template. Scenario two is to download and fill all 144 sells with patches or download all presets and select needed voices from a list. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Violin.

About articulations:
Try to use an independent basic concept for choosing articulations. Even better: Try to apply it for each instrument.
As an example: If you are working with keyswitches "C0" is always staccato and for every instrument...

About template
If you are using VE you can build whole orchestra parts within an VE - complete mixed and with the instruments containing the mentioned Basic Articulation Sets.
Later on you will be able to build every needed orchestra having such "Orchestra Modules" (such as VE-Strings, VE-Woodwinds, VE-Brass, VE-Percussion, VE-String Quartett,...)

BTW. The VE-Preset "small strings" you can get for free.

A few other ideas:
Try to arrange your articulations in a logical order in a row: for example short to long
Keep different versions of the same articulation in the same column: for example long detache, short detache
Try to order the same articulations in the same column the same way: either long to short, or short to long
Another option: keep the least used articulations towards the far right
To reemphasize though: the most important thing is to keep the same articulation in the same spot on each matrix. It does mean that since articulations are not quite identical, you may have a few holes here and there within the matrix itself where a violin has an articulation that the bass does not, for example. That is ok. IMO, it is also better to leave the hole than to fill it with a special articulation.
Also, for unique articulations, save a row or column and use that row or column for unique articulations for each instrument.

Thanks Beat and noldar12 for helpful replay. I am not using VE yet, only VI PRO 2 as a plugin. VE makes regularly a problem for my Logic 9. I have never seen so often the rotating disk before. That's way I'm going round and round with VE PRO 5. Maybe in a future, when I learn more about VI PRO 2 and buy a slave Computer. Now I'm in a quit suitable level, where I'm using VI and have already made several orchestral works, created before. What I need right now is to speed up the business. At this time, I am using VI Pro 2 in the older MIR SE. The techniques, as outlined, work just fine in VI Pro 2. You can simply design the form of the matrix in a word processing or spreadsheet program, and then use that printout as the basis for building the matrix for each instrument.
Designing the matrix first, also seems to give more of an opportunity to think through the options, before starting to create the actual templates.
It does take some time, and is not something that one can rush through. I ended up going through several iterations, over an extended period of time, before ending up with designs that didn't seem to need additional modification.
