  • best reverbs

I've been using the standard cakewalk FXreverb in my compositions because thats what it came with.

What is the best reverb out there for the cheapest price?
Are all reverbs FX that you add to audio?
What about the placement of the instruments on the stage (up close vs in the back of the orchestra)?

    thanks,

    calaf

  • You should definetely try one of the new breed of convolution-reverbs, like the Waves IR-1, the much cheaper Pristine Space from Voxengo, or the free SIR from Knufinke. - The latter two are VST only, so this may (or may not) be a problem for Cakewalk (... my last CW-experiences date back to the mid-90s, so I simply don't know ... 8-] ...)

  • thanks - I'll check them out!

  • BTW, the latest version (3.0) of Cakewalk Sonar ships with both VST and DXi support.

    Two other questions....

    1) Can I put my instruments in different places on the stage with the SIR from Knufinke?

    2) Is there any chance of things going wrong with my computer by downloading this free program? Is it compatible with WindowsXP etc...

    Hi calaf
    1) More or less - yes.
Please hear this example. I used SIR and
I tried to simulate the following formation:

    ____________________Double Bass
    ____Violine 2_______Viola

    Violine 1______________Cello

    ___________your pos.

The track starts with Viol2... Viol1... Viola... Cello/DB

    2) No problem with Win98, ME and XP, it's a normal VST-Effect. More important is the host-programm and its support of VST-Effects...

There are lots of free impulses in the net. To find "the right" ones...
takes a lot of time, monitors, and your ears

    all the best
