  • Couple of clarinet Bb questions

    Hi,

    Just downlaoded Bb full,

1- how do achive protamento between notes ?

    2-how to create vibrtato ?

3- Also from what I have been reading and under the impression, that the Bb single istrument is the same as the Bb in the DVD ?

    am I worng ?

    thank you

  • Mazeka, a couple comments on two of your questions:

    1) Portamento is a specific strings effect, and is achieved by keeping the string depressed against the fingerboard while sliding up the string.  It is not a woodwind technique.

    3) The full download library is indeed identical to the Bb clarinet in the boxed version.

  • Hi mazeka,

What you mean can probably be found under "glissandos".

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi noldar12

If you go to upgrade discounts, you can see that the Bb clarinet will coast 45 to upgrade to the level of DVD,

does that mean the DVD has more artculation ?

I under what you said about the strings portamento, but still the clarinet is capable of portamento, and am not sure how to achieve that result without the samples. same thought about vibrato.

  • Hi Paul,

I tried that and dont think its "authentic" In addition there are no Gliss in the lower register .

Also , what about vibrato ?

Wiki cites 'Stowell 2001' ["PORTAMENTO (II)" THE NEW GROVE DICTIONARY OF MUSIC AND MUSICIANS , SECOND EDITION ] per "and its emulation by members of the violin family and certain wind instruments"[2]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portamento

(originated from the Italian expression "portamento della voce" (carriage of the voice), denoting from the beginning of the 17th century a vocal slide between two pitches). also used all the time per synthesizers, in fact hardwired into many designs. So I don't think your restricting it to string practice is supportable.

the famous clarinet bit in Rhapsody in Blue is properly called a portamento.

if you don't have the sample for it, it isn't really going to do.

  • Civilization3, thanks for the clarification.

I also should have thought of the whole world of Klezmer which amply demonstrates your comment, but for some reason I just didn't.
