  • How many licenses does a Steinberg Key Hold?

I have two 1st gen Steinberg 'Dongles' and though they work, they are routinely touchy about adding new licenses. My understanding is that new eLicensers can hold a LOT more licenses. How many exactly? Are all new eLicensers the same (ie. from VSL, Steinberg, eLicenser)?

I don't mind getting another one if it means I can fit all licenses on one device and not have any more hassles... just wanna get the facts.

    TIA,

  • I think we're talking 100 or so, but in any case you should replace your key every 2 years, to make sure that it's still in warranty. I got Steinberg keys, because at the time they were much cheaper than Vienna Keys, but there is practically no difference.

  • Does Steinberg warrant my Cubase license on a Vienna Key that is under warranty?  I have them all on one Vienna Key and didn't think about whether they will honor my warranty period on a Vienna Key.

  • 100 oughta do it for me, for sure. I have like 20 on one and 8 on the other and they each balk every once in a while when I try to add a new license---rebooting usually does the trick. Paul @ VSL says that's because they're 1st gen and the newer ones hold more licenses so I guess that's where I'm heading.

    Thanks.

I'd never thought about the warranty thing---but at first blush, the idea of having to replace a device 'just because' every 2 years seems pretty wasteful.
