  • Woodwind sustains

I am considering buying the VSL Special Edition and had a few questions about the woodwinds. Do the solo flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon have continuous loops so that they can be sustained indefinitely (e.g., for as long as a key is pressed on a midi keyboard)? I ask this question because the VSL samples included with Kontakt only last a few seconds. Thank you very much.

  • Yes sustained samples exist:

    Hi,

And yes, these sustains are looped [:)]

You can book a session at www.try-sound.com, where you can check all instruments of the Special Editions (with some latency).

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thanks! I'll do that. Cheers, Rod

  • Rodsten, welcome to the forums.

One comment regarding your question (not sure if you are new to the sampling world or not): If using the solo woodwinds as solo woodwinds, one of the things that will help with realism is adding very brief rests as needed, where a real woodwind soloist would need to take a breath.  One of the things that draws attention to the use of samples is an endless string of notes in a brass or woodwind instrument, with no allowances being made for breathing.
