  • Computer Advice

    Hi,

I need to get a new Macbook run Cubase, VIP, among other plugins , I need some techincal advice to which one to get.

option A 15 with the retina display,

    1-it has no firewire port

2- not sure the stability of thunderbolt to firewire adaptor will .... I need fire wire for my audio intefcase Yamaha n12

3-no supper dirve,,, not that of a big deal.

    4- 16 gigs ram ,,, great option

5- flash drive.... not sure which is better flash or ssd.

6- iternal dive and ram are not changale

7- the dispaly resolution is not that of an importane

    Option B

    1- built in firewire 800 and 400

    2- bulit in thunder bolt

    3- built in supper drive

4- comes with 8 gig, but cricial memory has a 16 gig ram module

5- i can order it with a 7200 rpm hard drive. ..... this point is a bit important , the internal drive can be replaces with a ssd , not sure if its the same as flash drive, the max from cricial memmory ssd drive is 256 , i think.

    one more ?

is there a big differance between thunderbolt to thunderbolt ssd and thunder bolt to a 7200 rpm thunderbolt ?

interms of performance, the two are the same spec.

    any thoughts ?

  • Hi mazeka,

That´s a tough question, and I´m afraid you are the only person who can answer it for your situation.

It depends on your expectations and equipment. E.g., are you using a Firewire soundcard?

How many connections will you need? If you don´t need a drive, you can add a second harddrive (I have done that in my MacBook Pro, with an additional tray, instead of the superdrive).

Unfortunately I´m not up to date if any soundcards reliably support Thunderbolt, but I´m sure that the specialists in the musicstores can tell you more here...

Oh, and yes: Flash = SSD.

I guess the question really is: What do you want to with your MB PRO?

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi paul

    thanks for the reply

  • Hey Mazeka,

Did you ever decide on that new Mac?

  • Hi,

Yes I ordered the 16 gig with the faster CPU, I should get it this week,

Not sure if the firewire adaptors are available,

But I will get the Steinberg UR82  USB audio interface, Very impressed with its performance at low buffer size.

  • Nice... Is that the Retina display MacBook Pro?

  • Yes sir

  • OUTSTANDING....
