  • Next Possibly Noob Question: Articulation Preset?

    Hi,

I dunno if this is a VSL question or a VEP question but...

I'm working on a very large piece which I've divided into about 35 Cubase 'songs'. They all use the same VEP preset.... 12 VIs. Works great. But there's one thing I wish was better. I work on several songs a day and because VEP 'remembers' the articulations of each instrument from the last CPR, that means I have to make sure to have a MIDI event at the beginning of each CPR to 'initialize' each track to the proper articulation. Which is a PITA.... Yeah I know it sounds lazy but I'm still finding recording articulation changes slower than molasses when I'm trying to create.

I was wondering if there was a way to 'reset' all loaded VIs to a default articulation without having to put that in the CPR. IOW: when I loaded a CPR I wish I could make VEP automagically reset all VIs to Perf Legato (just an example.)

    TIA,

    ---JC

  • Not really. This is a Cubase issue, and you have already come up with the solution. Put a MIDI even at the start of each track, so that you always get the articulation you want. Make it part of the template. Then you only have to create this once. In fact it makes no sense not to do this, because without this, you will always get the wrong articulation, when you go back to the start of the music, if you have changed articulation somewhere during the piece.

As to it being really slow to change articulation, how are you doing this? What controllers? I can change articulation with one keyboard press and one click.

  •  If you don't have the correct articulation changes at the beginning of each track your are likely to have real problems with wrong articulations playing.

Apart from changing songs, if you have an articulation change in the middle of a song and stop the song, when you play it from the beginning, the aticulation will be wrong - so you do want to have the correct articulation command at the beginning of every song.

If you must "reset" the VE Pro instance,  then just load the VIframe again, as all the samples will already be resident,  it will load straight away without any great loading time.

  • Thanks. Hail Mary question. I always wale up hoping I'm in an alternate reality where Cubase has a 'macro' language for this sort of thing.... Or 'MIDI' hasn't been stuck in the same rut since 1983.

What's that they say about 'democracy' being the worst system in the world except everything else? That's how I feel about pretty much all DAW software right now...
