Just installed Lion now VSL won't access Samples
I've just installed Lion on my Macbook Pro. I've been using Vienna Special Edition for composing for a few years now with minimal problems. Suddenly, after the install, I can't access any of the samples. I run the Vienna Instruments program (In Logic, Pro-Tools and Ableton, and as a standalone) and the Vienna interface window loads just fine. But when I go to assign patches (Patch Assign) where I usually access the sample libraries there is an "X" and "(no patch)". I've tried running the directory manager a few times, and used the scan. It says "the Directory Manager found some volumes were removed". I have not changed anything with regard to where my libraries are kept (I access them from an external hard drive. I've tried removing the Vienna Sample Library from its location in the Directory Manager window and then dragging the parent folder into that window directly from my external hard drive, but that hasn't worked. I'd like some suggestions. I read that no software updates were necessary for Lion. Is this true? What should I do to get VSL working again? I'm in the middle of a film score and I can't afford to be down for long. J Rodgers jonnyrodgers75@yahoo.com

Hi Johnny,
Wow, you´re updating your OS in the middle of a film score!
1) Make sure you have the latest eLCC and VSL Software installed.
2) Launch the Directory Manager, remove all folders and add them again by drag and drop. More information about the Directory Manager in this video.
Best,

Thanks. I updated the eLicenser. I updated VSL to version. I reinstalled the library. Now the VSL player is accessing the libraries. However, I'm getting massive clicks, pops and drop-outs from the player which I'm using in Pro Tools 10. I'm using Vienna Instruments on an instrument track Can you make some recommendations for me to get it running optimally? It was working fine with Leopard and Pro Tools 8 LE. I'm now running: MacBook Pro 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 6 GB of RAM OS - Lion 10.7.4 Pro Tools 10 VSL - OS X 4.1.10378 Vienna Ensemble won't open as a standalone right now. It hangs indefinitely on the "scanning licenses" window. Vienna Instruments will open as a standalone. I've been able to use Vienna instruments without too much difficulty in the newest version of Ableton this week. I'd love your advice. J Rodgers

Hi Jonny,
It could easily be that Lion and PT 10 are too much for your MB PRO, which is at least 5 years old now... I had a similar MB PRO until the end of 2010, and everything was starting to get REALLY SLOW with the new OS´s and the Core2Duo processors even back then.
The combination of old hardware and new software can often be very tricky, unfortunately.
Sorry to have no better news there. Maybe switching to a less demanding DAW like Ableton will help, but in the middle of a production....
Best,
Paul
