  • Simulate fast legato/spicatto/marcatto performance?

    Hello

I have chamber strings and I plan to buy soon Solo Strings and Brass I with extended contents or Dimension Brass.

The problem is that for Chamber Strings and Dimension Brass there are no fast performance.  Is this a real problem for rapid

music passage?  Can the time stretching feature of VI PRO 2 resolve this problem in a convincing way?

I'm sure at 100% to buy Solo Strings 1.  But I hesitate a little bit for the Brass between Brass 1 and Dimension...  I would really love to be able to split the brass for my orchestral works.  And the legato with 4 velocity layers looks awesome for these kinds of instrument which the timbre is very different dependly the velocity used...

Does anyone have a clue about this?

    Thank you,

    Vincent

  • The lack of fast legato can be an issue with the chamber strings.

For my own purposes, I have found two options worth trying.  First, use a long detache for moderately fast notes - perhaps moderately "non-slow notes" would be a better description (it sounds more connected than one would naturally expect.  But, so far, I have not written something for chamber strings that requires rapid 32nds or anything that fast.

Another option would be, in VI Pro 2, to create a faster legato patch, something that is very easy to do, by shortening the initial attack %, and decreasing the following portion of the note (leaving the latter potion of the note at 100%).

  • A big thank you for your fast help noldar!

I will try the tricks you give me...  If it is convincing with the VI 2 pro feature I will be very tempted to buy DB!  It have less articulation than

Brass 1,  but the possibility to split the notes between the 4 instrument is so nice.  And the 4 velocity layers looks so rich.  [:O]

It have performance trill,  crescendo,  decresendo...  The only thing really messing for classical work would be fast legato,  I imagine I can

    live without marcatto...

  •  Have you tried using Performance Trills instead of fast legato?

    DG

  • Hello DG!

No,  I didn't try it...  I Will try it tonight...

Do the performance trill of Dimension Brass can simulate in a convicing way fast legato passages?

    Thank you,

    Vincent

  •  I don't have Dimension Brass.

  • Hi,

the fast legato are ideal for fast runs, with all instruments [:)]

  • Hello Paul!

Do you plan to add fast performance for Chamber Strings?  It would be so useful...

    Thank you for your time,

    Vincent

  • Hi Vincent,

What speaks against using the Performance Trills?

I actually wanted to refer to the performance trills in the previous post. In any case, both fast legato and performance trills give you good options when performing runs, performance trills are even more versatile, in my eyes (and ears).

    Paul

  •  Hello everyone!

I tested some options,  and the performance trill is the best way to simulate fast legato performance!  It sounds real!  Thank you for the trick Paul and DG.

    Vincent

  • DG, thanks for that.  I had never tried the performance trills for fast legato either.  For what I am currently working on, using that articulation is a significant improvement.

    Thanks again.
