  • Problem with live audio recording and MIR

I am trying to do some live recording and I setup up Sonar with an audio track with VEP Audio Input as an insert.  When I do that I get a crackoing sound through the mic.  When I remove VEP Audio Input and insert any other reverb effect it works fine.

Any ideas why when I insert VEP Audio Input I am getting noise?

  • Hi Mike,

what is your system latency set to? What's the MIR Engine's latency in the Preferences set to?

Do you get reliable audio playback from a Vienna Instrument intantiated directly in VE Pro?

    Kind regards,

  • Dietz,

My audio interface latency is set to 128.  MIR is set to 256 (if I go any lower it stops working.)  I have triwed setting my audio interface to all latency settings between 128 and 512 and nothing made it better.

Instruments come through in real time just fine.  Also, when I recording with a mic going through MIR, even though there is a crackling sound whiole the mic is armed in record mode, tghe crackling stops when I actually start recording and it is also not present during playback.  It only seems to happen when I have a audio track armed for recording but have not actually begone recording.

    Hope this info helps.

    THanks,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

Please increase the latency of your audio system. And like pointed out on p. 8 of MIR Pro's manual, there are actually two numbers to take into account here, namely the host buffer size and MIR latency setting. The latter should either be 0 (zero) or a number greater than the host buffer size. MIR latency below or equal to the host buffer size will give you troubles.

    Dietz,

I changed the MIR latency setting to 0.  I lkeft my audio interface at 128 (if I go any lower I can't get MIR to work.)  Concerning the buffer settings, do you mean the initial buffer settings in the VEP5 Server Interface window?  It defaults to 2, should I set that lower or higher?   The zero latency setting in MIR took care of the noise issue.

Also, I notoce that the screen cap in the manual of the MIR preferences is different from what I see.  The manual screen cap s shows 4 menus..."General", "Audio/Midi"', "plugins"' and "MIR", my window is missin ghte "general menu."  I am running the latest version 5.0.10738.  Why would I be missing the general menu?

    THanks,

    Mike

  • If you encounter crackles already, a system latency of 128 is _very_ optimistic. ;-) Usually, I start with 512 or 1024.

Leave the server buffer-settings at their defaukt value for now. I'm talking about the MIR engine's own latency setting sin the Preferences window (... they should be set to a value higher than the system latency when you're still hear crackles or dropouts).

You have a "General Prefences" menu only in stand-alone mode of VE Pro, not in server mode. In server mode, the host takes care for the communication with the outside world.

    Kind regards,
