Hello. I was wondering is there a "correct" way to play a performance trill. If I wanted for example to play a whole tone trill between the notes C and D, should I press down the C key and keep it pressed while tapping the D key or should I quickly tap both keys alternately? If I keep the C key pressed down throughout the whole trill, do I still hear a new C sample every time I release the D key?

Playing performance trills?

Generally I would keep the lowest note held down for trills (Interval mode must be MONO), it ensures that the lowest note of the trill maintains the same velocity thoughout and makes it easier to produce a smoother trill.
It is last note priority keying, so on releasing the top note, the lower will sound again.
But, like all things musical - there will be times when you will want a strong dynamic in the trill, in which case you would not want to hold the lowest note, but as (I think) all the trills are only 2 velocity layers, you probably would want an even velocity. I would use CC11/CC24 to create a dynamic in the trill if needed.

"Performance" means that everthing has to be performed, no prerecorded phrases are triggered.
Holding the lower key is prinicpally working (in VI PRO the patch has to be set to monophonic), but in that case alway the same down interval sample will be triggered, so you don't get convincing reslut. In fact there are always six different down and up intervals which are triggered when you perform each interval on your keyboard.
With VI PRO you get also the option to use preprogrammed trill matrices which are based on the performance trill patches.
Here you can hold just one key and trill is performing. You have the option to alter the tempo in the VI PRO sequenzer modul or you can reedit the trill to your needs.
