You insert your audio file in your DAW and follow VSL manual about Audio Input

Yes, like stated in MIR Po's product description and in the manuals of VE Pro abd MIR Pro, it is of course possible to use conventional audio streams within MIR Pro. Certain feature-restrictions will apply, though.
1. Start VE Pro in Server mode and connect it to your DAW.
2. Insert the "VE Audio Input" plugin into the audio track you wan to send to VE pro / MIR Pro. Assign it to a dedicated routing target.
3. In VE Pro, add an Audio Input channel and assign its input source to the routing target you have chosen before.
4. Connect this Audio Input Channel with MIR Pro (unless you didn't have the auto-connect option enabled) and select a General Purpose Instrument Profile (Cardioid is always a good choice to start with).

" Assign it to a dedicated routing target" - do yu mean a channel in my audiointerface i my outputs in Sonar l;ook limited to 8channels of my interface or Sonar's master chanel or any number of buses,.

Do I also need to set the the output in VEP to something? My biggest prolem seems to be where and how to route the audio sidgnal out of Sonar into VEP.
I am not seeing a speific output send to VEP from Sonar. Not do I see a specific input soure in VEP for Sonar. Should theswe routes be through the interface? I'n nissing something.

For better understanding, I made two screenshots from a mix I did in MIR Pro a few weeks ago, using nothing but audio tracks (no virtual instruments - except VE Pro, of course, which just acts as the framework for MIR Pro in that case).
The DAW I use is Nuendo, but the principle should be the same for all other hosts.

THank you for this. However, the setup in Nuendo is so different looking from Sonar I am still having trouble getting it to work. Do you insert VEP in a bus and then send your audio track to that bus? I have tried that but cannot get it to return the effect. I have also tried putting VEP in the FX bin of the audio I track I want to process but that did not work either. I can hear the MIR room tone coming through, so I know VEP is sending to SOnar, but I am not sure why Sonar is not sending to VEP. I cannot even hear the unprocessed audio, so I think it is a send issue, but I'm not sute what
Unfortunately Nuendo's interface is very different from Sonar. Maybe it's time for me to switch to a new sequencing program! WHat do you think is the best and most intuitive PC based sequencer to use with VEP/MIR?

So you hear the RoomTone when you insert VE Pro in a bus track of Sonar? That sounds like a good start. [Y] ... it means that the VE Pro Server plugin is indeed connected to Vienna Ensemble Server.
Mind you: You will have to use the audio insert FX called "Vienna Ensemble Audio Input" in each track of Sonar that you want to send to MIR Pro.
Click "Assign" in each of these inserts to make this plugin "talk" with Vienna Ensemble at all. Then select the routing - most likely (but not necessarily) a separate path for each one, e.g. "1+2".
In VE Pro, add an Audio Input (NOT a VI or VI Pro-Channel!) and choose the respective path as its input ("1+2", in our example). Now the signal should come into VE Pro and go back via its Master Output to Sonar - namely the bus channel you have used to insert VE Pro's Server plugin.
Does this work?
Re "best" DAW: It all boils down to your personal habits. Personally, I know Cubase, Nuendo, ProTools and Logic intimately. My personal preference is Nuendo, but Cubase is very similar and pretty much the same in all aspects that could be of any importance for you. Due to some quite cumbersome implementation issues that occur in more demanding setups like the ones we have to use in conjunction with VE Pro I would stay away from Logic (if I would have the choice). The latest versions of ProTools have pretty much closed the gap to Cubase and Nuendo when it comes to GUI, MIDI editing and general handling, so it might be a question of taste. Quite a few Mac-based people (especially in the States) like Digital Performer, which I have only used on a few occasions, so I can't give you any meaningful opinion in that respect. - Can't say much about Ableton Live! and the very new Studio One, which are both used by several VE Pro users.
Still I'm convinced that it doesn't need witchcraft and wizardry to get VE Pro working with Sonar. :-) ... maybe some fellow users will chime in with an easy and straight-forward solution ....?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! It was the " Vienna Ensemble Audio Input" that I was missing! Wonderful! What a phenominal addition this will be to some of my audio projects! THANK YOU!
I'm glad to hear your comments about DAWs. I think Sonar is actually quite good, it just doesn't seem to be as popular as some others, I'm not sure why. As I have said before, I don't need a lot of "wizardry" in my DAW, most of my stuff is pretty straight forward and relies on music rather than gimmicks and glitter. However, I do use a fair amount of witchcraft!
I bought a Steinberg MR816x Audio interface with my new system and I love it. Great sound, great preamps, and really super easy to use. It came with a copy of Cubase AI5 (sort of a compressed beginner's version of Cubase) which I am going to look at as soon as I master VEP5 and MIR - so I would say in about 17 light years!
