    I've been using the extended instruments in demo mode which is due to expire and yes, I'm familiar with the layout on this page:

    but have been told that to get the complete extended library I'd have to pay over $800; is this true? Or would I only have to spend $400+?

    Another question concerns the Appassionata strings: the articulation sounds horrendous to my ears, since there is no legato articulation. The sustain lacks the transitions between the notes and sounds nothing like a true legato. Or am I misunderstanding something about these strings?

    Within the SE libraries, the AP Strings are more of a demo tease for the full AP library.  They provide a taste of the AP Strings sound, but little more.  With only the two articulations, their uses are very limited.

    As for purchasing the extended SE libraries, the cost will depend on what standard SE libraries you have.  There are four SE libraries all told (you probably know this), two standard, and two extended.  Special Edition extended is currently $475.  The $890 price is a bundled price that includes both the SE Standard extended library and the SE Plus extended library.  Note that within the world of SE, the Plus libraries do add some additional key articulations.

    Depending on your budget, given your interest in woodwinds, would it be worth considering getting something like Woodwinds I of the full edition (both standard and extended)?  The dynamic patches of the extended full libraries really help with creating a sense of realism.

    I finally phoned the American dealer Ilio and ordered some extra instruments, not in the Extended editions. I will content myself with those for the moment.
