  • Cannot get my Performance samples or Horizon samples to work properly in Logic 9 Pro

Since updating to Logic Pro 9 I cannot get anything to work from my 'old' VSL libraries re: legato tool.

Do I need to download anything?

    Snow Leopard/Mac Pro

  • Hello PaulR,

Unfortunately, Apple has completely dropped the support of our Performance Tool with the release of Logic 9.1 64-bit and there will be no further development for our legacy products from our side either.

All non-performance patches should play normally, though.

Also, please be aware of the fact, that some modes of the Performance Tool (i.e. Alternation and Repetition), although fully functional, can currently still not really be edited since Logic Pro 8 - this is beyond our influence!

Basically, the problem only affects the visual feedback of the Tools interface, which makes it impossible to edit its settings.

So if you launch Logic 9 in 32-bit (!), loading and playing previously saved or default EXS patches should actually work as before, only editing the Performance Tool is affected.

And especially as far as the Legato mode of the Performance Tool is concerned, everything in fact works as expected in Logic 9 32-bit.

You can download the last version of the Performance Tool from https://vsl.co.at/en/68/427/157/164/58.htm

My apologies for not having better news.

    Best,

    Paul

  • So what you're saying is that the Legato function from my Horizon and First Edition libraries won't actually work anymore?

  • Hello,

That is correct. Apple/Logic decided to drop the support in Logic 9 (no, they have not asked).

    Sorry,

    Paul

  • So I just found this out by loading a sample I required for some work and thought something had gone wrong with the computer.

This effectively means all my 7 Horizon libraries and First Edition and performance Set is now useless because I can't go back to 32 bit due to overload problems.

Do VSL replace these libraries for more up to date ones that work in Logic 9?

  • Hello,

When we introduced the Vienna Instruments Collections about 5 years ago, there was an upgrade path available, which expired after some months.

Since then, the prices for the VI Collections have dropped over time (as usual in a product cycle), so that getting new collections (especially bundles) now is probably cheaper than upgrading back then.

The best idea is to contact my colleagues at  with your upgrade plans/wishes.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Ok thanks. I think I'll pass.
