  • Vienna Key Backup

Is there anyway to backup your Vienna Key?   I'm sure it is quite reliable, but all solid state drives can become corrupted and I would like to know if there is a way to back up?  Or is it best to jstu buy a second key and download everything to it?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    1. Makes sure you have a 2nd key
    2. Make sure that all keys are within the warranty period
    3. Makes sure you have insurance for your software

I wasn't aware that the key had a warranty period.  How do you find out when that expires?  When I get a second key would I just load all the info via the eLicenser control center?

Also, when you say insurance all software, you mean doing it through and independent insurance company (e.g. your home insurance company, etc.), correct?  VI does not offer any kind of insurance do they?

Honestly what I have always done is make copies of CDs and DVDs and store them in locations outside my house.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • The key has a warranty period of 2 years from the date of purchase.

If your first key becomes cracked or looks as if it might fall apart, you can transfer your licences for it to a new one, using the eLicenser Control Centre.

It is unlikely that home insurance will cover software. You need to look for specialist insurance, if you want to be covered against theft or loss of the key.

Yeah, but good luck finding somebody in the US who will do that.  You'll have to go through foriegn insurance companies, like Loyd's of London, and they charge more than what it's worth.

My home owner's insurance (Allstate) will cover the cost of the software in the event of a fire or theft.  They WILL NOT cover the cost if the key and/or software leaves the curtilage of my home.  As long as I keep it at my home studio and never travel with it I'm covered.  Be sure to explain to the insurance company what you have and the value.  They WILL NOT cover the key in the event of a malfunction with the key or your system.  So be sure that the key is in the warrenty period as DG suggested.

I have friends who use their home studios as a business, for tax purposes, and the insurance they keep to cover their "business" will also cover the cost of the software but It's usually a little more expensive than regular home owner's insurance.  Not to mention, if anything does happen to the software they can write it all off of their taxes as a loss.
