  • VSL Cimbasso Transposition

Which transposition is used by the VSL Cimbasso, and how should it be notated correctly?

  • Hello Adriaan!

All our instruments are mapped according to the sounding pitch. So if you play (or write) a C4, you will hear a C4. If you are working with notation software, the software normally takes care of the according transposition by itself, but the Cimbasso is a non-transposing instrument anyway.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi

Thank you for the reply. I did notice that in Sibelius three Cimbassos are listed under Edit Instruments as transposing in F, E-flat and B-flat.

Should I create a non transposing bass cleff staff for the Cimbasso?

    Thanks

    Adriaan

  • Hello Adriaan!

We recorded the most common Cimbasso in F. Even though it is in F, it is non-transposing anyway. So there is no need to create a new instrument.

    Best,
    Andi
