VEP VS CUBASE
-
VEP, per se. Cubase has other things on its mind at the same time it hosts [instruments and fx] that VEP is not burdened with.
-
It's going to depend on how much you ask Cubase to do, isn't it. I said 'per se', ie., through itself, Cubase is doing more than something that isn't doing those things.
the 'efficiency' is going to vary according to OS, acc'ding to sound card, acc'ding to how well one maintains their setup, etc.
the more you do the more it's going to be valuable to use VE Pro. The first consideration is, do you need the plugins to run as a separate process? I think one's use would have to be pretty light not to.

I didn't notice exactly 'a' plugin in your original post. I wouldn't be surprised that for a single instrument the difference is negligible.

The main advantage of VE is that it is able to play libraries via LAN on other PCs/MACs.
A second advantage is probably, that you are able to save complete instrument sections, incl. effects etc. so that you are able to build orchestra with "VE-modules".
But if you have no Library on an other PC or you don't want to build such"orchestra-modules" you do not need VE.
On the contrary, I would only work with the DAW (your DAW is a host as well).
