  • CPU performance optimization

I'm running a huge orchestral piece with 92 instruments using the special edition soundset and sibelius. My PC is fairly powerful but things are getting very slow and pops and clicks are creeping in. What are the things I can do to reduce the load on the CPU as much as possible? I suspect the main problem is I'm using 79% of my 24GBs of RAM. But are there other things/settings I should be looking at?

  •  More likely a disk issue than CPU.  How many HDs do you have your libraries spread across?

Dorico, Notion, Sibelius, StudioOne, Cubase, Staffpad VE Pro, Synchon, VI, Kontakt Win11 x64, 64GB RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, August Forster 190
  •   Also note that Sibelius playback system is simply terrible compared with any sequencer, especially while working with huge templates. I followed all the playback optimization tips I found in the manual and the forums and nothing worked. Although I understand that Sibelius is mainly a notation program (and does its job really well for me), I really think they must drastically improve the playback system in order to compete with other products.

If you're running VE-Pro as a plug-in, the only thing I can suggest to you is that you switch to the standalone version and send the midi data from Sibelius via a virtual midi cable like LoopBe30. It works much better for me, although is far for being reliable. By the way, I didn't upgrade to Sibelius 7 because I found that the playback was just unusable. You could also try using Sibelius 6 instead.

      Hope it helps. Good luck.

  • You are using 79 % of 24 GB, what value are the preload buffers (in Directory manager)?

  • No sure what you mean by directory manager. Sibelius has buffer size set at 4096. The VE Pro Server Interface is set to 2 buffers. I presume I'm missing something.

Do you have VI Pro 2 ?

If yes you can set the pre-load buffer size in Directory Manager.

Reducing the pre-load buffer allow to load more samples in memory but increase disk I/O

You can reduce the pre-load buffer if you have a raid 0, ssd or very fast disks
