  • AU MIDI Ports and VE Pro 4

With Logic Pro's AU format, how many MIDI Ports would I be able to access from within VE Pro 4? According to this comparison chart, it says 32:

    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/497/1685/1990/2016/1703.htm

However I thought that it was only in the new VE Pro 5 that you could access more than 1 AU MIDI port (48 to be precise)?

    Thanks!

  • That seems to be a mistake in the comparison chart there. VE Pro 4 can do up to 32 MIDI ports with VST3 and RTAS, but not with AU and VST. VE Pro 5 can do up to 48 MIDI ports with any plugin standard using the included workarounds for AU and VST.

  • Thanks for your reply, Karel.

If I wanted to use VE Pro in Pro Tools 9, how could I load VE Pro 64-bit when Pro Tools is only 32-bit as I would want to access all of my RAM?

  • You just instantiate the VE Pro RTAS plugin and connect it to the 64-bit VE Pro Server running on the same system. Now you can load your RAM intensive instruments in the connected VE Pro instance.

Okay thanks for this. If I wanted to try out VE Pro 5 could I use it in a project I am working on or is that not permitted? How long is the demo trial active for?

  • The trial is 30 days. VE Pro 5 is completely backward compatible with VE Pro 4, but not the other way around of course.

    Hi orchestranova,

These demo licenses work for 30 days/30 starts.

Once the 30 starts are used up, you can recharge them as often as you like by clicking "Maintenance" in the eLicenser Control Center (within 30 days).

    Best,

    Paul
