    I'm trying the demo of Mir Pro. How to setup let's say a horn ensemble consisting of 4 horns? By the way I'm using Sample Modeling french horns. 1. Should I give every single horn it's own icon in Mir Pro and place them beside each other. Then choose the Horn ensemble(4) instrument profile for every single Icon and make the stereo width the same as one horn? Or simply just give every single horn the horn(1) instrument profile? 2. Make one icon consisting of all 4 horns and choose the Horn ensemble(4) instrument profile?

    1. Yes, but you should use an all purpose profile.

    Hi Hanquist,

    thanks for you interest in Vienna MIR Pro.

    It's highly important to understand that all the specific Instrument Profiles should be used solely with Vienna Instruments' samples. The included meta-data takes into account aspects like the microphone setup during the actual recording process, frequency-dependent directivity profiles derived from measurements of these instruments in an anechoic room, relative volume, etc. (... some of these details are covered in MIR Pro's Manual Addendum called "Think MIR!" - it's available in the downoad section of your VSL User Area:  -> http://dl.vsl.co.at/downloader.aspx?ID=7629)

    This means that any other sound source than a Vienna Instrument should be used with the so-called General Purpose profiles (like DG pointed out already), otherwise the results will be unpredictable.

    Ideally, every signal source will have its own "Icon" on a MIR-stage. That way, MIR can unfold its full power. In some cases combining several (ideally identical) instruments for the use in one MIR Icon will lead to quite realistic results, too, but this is always the second-best solution only.
