  • sul ponticello again

I still haven't bought any of the VSL Libraries simply because I can't get a satisfactory answer as to which of them contain the sul ponticello articulations.

As far as I can see these are not contained in the Special Edition or Special Edition Plus and, though I am impressed with the overall sounds, they don't fill my needs. So I'm at a loss.

    Anyone?

Did you look at the product pages? It seems pretty clear to me which Collections have ponticello. From memory Solo Strings and Orchestral Strings do, but to get them in the Special Edition I think you have to get SE Plus. I haven't checked, so i suggest that you go to Products/Strings and the when you find the Collection you're interested in click on Sample Content.

  • Yes, I see you are correct. But it seems to get these I'd have to shell out over $1600 for the Standard and Plus. This is beyond what I can afford. But thanks.

  • Not true.

For $745 you'd get Special Edition and Special Edition Plus Standard libraries.  This would give you sul ponticello for the solo strings and the orchestral strings.

The $1600 price tag you reference is if you bought the Standard AND the Extended libraries.  What the extended libraries get you, among other things, is chamber strings and Appasionata strings, however there's no sul ponticello articulation included with those.

So not to convince you one way or the other, but what it sounds like is you'd just require the SE and SE+ Standard libraries.  I can also tell you I recently purchased those and am very happy with my purchase.  The samples are good (better than what I'm used to) and there are plenty of articulations and techniques for what I write.

  • You also get the ponticello articuations if you just buy SE Download Strings and Strings+

  • I think you could even go two steps further:

    1) If you need the Chamber strings sul ponticello you could buy the SE Strings Plus Full download. That is standard and extended for €290. I'm quite sure that you don't need the SE Strings to buy the SE Strings Plus. You just can't play the articulations from SE Strings. But you do need the standard content to buy the extended version.

    2) If you just need the solo strings sul ponticello, you could only buy the SE Strings Plus Standard - not the full version. That standard is only €165.

    Cheers,

    Sabine

  • Thanks all,

I did buy the Plus Standard of the orchestral (not only strings.) library. If I decide on the Extended, I can add that later but I wouldn't do it now.
