  • Cubase SX setup

    Hi there!

I am really excited about this fantastic library... I am messing around with it for 3 days now - and I can't get enough!!!

    BUT:

    1. How do I have to set up CUBASE SX??? I cannot record the midi signal, since the performace tool has no MIDI outs shown within Cubase
(compared to Maestro of the Garritan strings for example!!!).

    2. Do I have to start Cubase from within GIGASTUDIO or do I have to launch it seperately?

    Can anyone help me please!?

Perhaps I don't see the solution or way to go cause I am used to working with the Garritan stuff- well at the moment my head is close to going crazy!!!

    Thanks for any help

it seems, you're running cubase and gigastudio on one machine and i assume you got one physical midi-in which is connected to your keyboard.

there has to be done a little bit of midi-routing:
cubase-in has to be connected to your physical midi-port
now you need some virtual midi-ports, which can *bridge* between the various in's and out's (see links on the bottom)
with these virtual *midi-pipes* you can now connect:
cubase-out to performance-tool-in (if not already provided by cubase)
performance-tool-out to gigastudio-in (if you can not choose nemesis-port directly from the performance-tool)

@all: please correct my descriptions, if they are misleading

there are some programs out there in the internet, which provide these virtual midi-pipes (we do not recommend one or another)
midi yoke http://www.midiox.com/">http://www.midiox.com/ (seems to run not smooth on some W2K/XP-computers having GS installed)
    midi-connection-center http://www.musiclab.com/downloads/free/
    hubi's midi loopback http://members.magnet.at/hubwin/midi.html

    hth, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Well thanks CM...

BUT midiyoke or any other virtual MIDI connector makes systems running with GIGA (and Cubase) unstable and crashing badly...

But the guys at VSL: I know they have Cubase running with GIGA and VSL.
    How do they do it???

they use one computer for cubase and another for GS, so they can connect them physically ... never saw or heard it otherwise ... paul, would you step in?

  • Thats right, the sequenzer is installed on a dedicated PC.
The reason for this setup (and for most giga users) is to keep full ressources on the gigastudio engine (CPU, Ram).

Our miditool developer is working on one engine, using midiyoke without any problems.

    We'll check other options.

  • I'm running Gigastudio / SX & The Performance Tools on the same machine with no problems what soever. I'm using Sonic Foundry's Midi Router instead of MidiYoke.

Gigastudio's midi in's set to none just like in the Performance Manual
Performance Tool in's set to Sonic's Midi Router / outs to Nemesys
Cubase SX midi in's to your actual midi hardware in / outs to Sonic or Hubis

    All very stable.

    Hope this helps.

  • One last thing.....the ORDER in which you open the programs is important.

I first open Gigastudio then launch Cubase SX from withing Gigastudio.
(Cubase needs to see all of it's midi drivers etc.) Lastly, open the Performance tool.

    Hi Matt:

Cubase SX/Nuendo User here. I just received by VSL package last night and will be spending all of today and tomorrow exploring it...with Cubase, Nuendo, and possibly Cubase 5.x.

    (1) For all setup questions Giga and Cubase related so a "Search" at http://www.cubase.net (Cubase Forum). There are less than 15 or so individual responses there that will completely get you up to speed re: Giga and Cubase SX. The MAIN 'gotcha' is to be sure you do not use your hardware outputs "1/2" since Cubase and Nuendo grab these themselves automatically at startup.

    (2) I am convinced that multiple computers should work with Cubase/Nuendo using VST System Link (also a "VSL" [;)]) and will cap off my experimentation, tomorrow night, with the setup of two or three computers + Giga + Cubase SX/Nuendo. I'll return to this thread then with a report of success/failurre/problems...

    regards
