  • Vienna instrument Upright Bass installation?!?

    Hi there,

I just bought the download version of the upright bass instrument. I was hoping that installation was just a mater of downloading a file, installing it, and start making music right away. But unfortunately the proces is messy.

I have a iMac, with a Steinberg eLicense dongle. I installed the Vienna instrument, and i have registered the Upright bass instrument on the Elicenser, and i have registered my eLicense onin my profile on this website. Everything without any problems.

    But...

i now just have an empty Vienna instrument player, without any samples in it. I cannot find the much discussed package.info file which should allow me to download the bass samples. All the tutorials state i should have the file, but where do i get it?

    kind regards,

    Maarten

  • well, after one hour of searching and re-reading pages on your site, i feel a bit stupid now (as a new customer i always prefer to feel happy after i bought something). I found the download file in the user area.

The file is only several kb of size. As an interaction designer myself i really have to say this is the worst user experience i have ever seen for a online buying proces.

    - Why didn't you send me this small file attached to the 'VSL Order Confirmation' emai.

    - Why is this small file not made available on the 'stored files' page of my account on your site?

    - Why can the download program not have a look at my elicenses where it can find my license for the upright bass library: "We see you have not yet downloaded your library, would you like to t=start downloading it now?"

-Why didn't the tutarial videos not mention where to look for the installation file?

Well, just some fast ideas for you to HELP me to get what i bought.....

I hope this lack of user experience design won't say too much about the software itself (but i'm scared...)

    Welcome MLierop,

The files for your Upright Bass are waiting for you in your User Area, please follow the steps on top of the page to download and install the sample content.

The latest VSL Software is available here, also make sure to install the latest eLicenser Software.

    Best,

    Paul

  • I agree that the VSL website is a web usability nightmare. The team should have their web developer read the book "Don't Make Me Think" by web usability expert Steve Krug.

Having said that, the VSL team is simply amazing. These guys know their stuff and their products are the best of the best. I love VSL products and will continue to buy them (despite the website!)

    Thanks, Paul,

I have found the file, and indeed the upright bass sounds just wonderfull, absolutely worth the money.

I really think you should do something about the landing page of the 'Download instruments'-section. The name of this section is perfect since downloading the instrument is exactly what i was looking for. However, after reading this page i was confused and started searching somewhere else.

The problem is the kind of summary you give there:

    Here you'll find:

I was not looking for updates of libraries (library? is that the same as an 'instrument'?), manuals nor the downloadmanager.

The first and most important thing (for new customers like me) in this list is missing: the downloadable instruments itself! Why not add it:

    • Instruments, use the menu on the left to find download files and instructions the for instrument you are looking for.
    • Updates that provide minor bug fixes to the sample content files of your Download Instruments
    • Manuals, giving detailed information on all Patches, Matrices and Presets of any given Download Instrument.
    • Vienna Download Manager that handles the download and installation routine safely and conveniently, including the Download Manager Files and a Manual.

Well, i hope you guys will put some time into the site anyhow, it gives a very unproffesional impression to me (unlike your software itsel). Even small improvements can make a huge difference!

    greatings!

    Maarten

  • That's a good, and funny book indeed! It really shows you the right mindset for usability work!

    Hi MLierop,

That´s a good idea, we have changed the Download Instruments Overview Page accordingly.

And we´re working on a great new website with high pressure [:)]

  • I had a dream that VSL had a "Software update" software like the one on MAC OS X [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]  [:D]

  • I had a dream that Cyril made a post without mentioning a Mac. It was only a dream though..........
