Vienna Ensemble Pro & Sibelius 6
Hello, it's been a month now since I started trying to configure my Sibelius to playback with Vienna. I installed the Sound Sets (on Mac OS) to Harddrive/User/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 6/Sounds (I had to create the latest). However, after choosing a device Vienna Ensemble Pro in "playback devices" on Sibelius, I'm not able to choose among the manually installed sound sets (e.g. percussion, harp), but am only able to find the "Vienna Ensemble Pro" sound set. Additionally, when I click "show" (the device), all I get is a window with the message "not connected", and it won't connect no matter what I do, although the "Vienna instruments" device does open up for me when requested. And yes, I went on to "search for..." in the audio engine options, but it didn't change anything. Thoughts on this? A response would be kindly appreciated. HfM Berlin

Hello HfM Berlin!
Please start the Vienna Ensemble Pro Server before starting Sibelius. Then you should be able to connect.
The sound sets have to be assigned to an activated playback device in Sibelius. This can be done in the right column of the activated devices on the Playback Devices page.A detailed manual on how to use Vienna Ensemble with Sibelius can be found here:

Hello Andi, activating the Vienna Ensemble Pro Server before the Sibelius 6 did enable us to connect, thank you for your quick reply. However, we can not seem to access the sound sets from "playback devices". Is this where the sound sets should be located? In this form? I also tried placing them to a similar destination, only in direct Library of the hard drive, and not my username: it didn't change anything, after countless resets of both VEP Server and Sibelius 6. http://i43.tinypic.com/1osuxe.png So, what I can not get is the wished sound sets from the right column. This is what it persistently keeps looking like: http://i39.tinypic.com/1zezbyr.png As you see, I can not select what the video tutorial advises me to. Furthermore, when I try to load the presets (or matrices) at my instance of the Vienna Ensemblo Pro Server, they are missing. No presets whatsoever. In spite of the tutorial instructing that no presets should be copied to the "VSL custom data" folder in case of previously having purchased the Pro version of Vienna Ensemble, I tried to do this. Then, I was finally able to see the presets when loading them for my midi channels. http://i43.tinypic.com/fyg7b5.png So at least visually, this did work. Please note that when switching to "matrix assign", the folder names would appear, but contrary to "presets", these were just "ghost names", or non-interactive to be more precise. http://i39.tinypic.com/2lapoyd.png Anyway the "presets" loaded too quickly and did not produce the sound, I don't think these matrices were able to communicate with the sample library. Obviously, I noticed that in the tutorial video, Your instructor loads the matrices from a certain Sibelius destination folder, that is before proceeding to what very much looks like the names of the sound sets I'm trying to find. But so far, I was never able to see that folder when loading instruments. As the underlying issue might be something fairly simple, which I simply fail to see, a response would yet again be kindly appreciated. with kind regards, HfM Berlin P.S. I am sorry about the very messy layout, apparently the post won't follow my commands.

Hello HfM!
In order to have better formatting for your posts, go to Community/Profile/Community and select "Enhanced" for Content Editor.
The sound sets (*.xml files) have to be located directly in the Sounds folder and not in subfolders. That's why they were not found by Sibelius.
The VI Presets have to be loaded with Preset Select. If they are loaded without content, I guess you didn't assign the content folders in the Directory Manager. Please open Directory Manager and add the folders with your VSL content files there. Then restart Vienna Ensemble.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Andi
