    Hi,

    I've been using a MacPro 8 cores and MacPro 4 cores as slave machines at my workstations. For portability, I'm curious about what the latest MacMini can handle in terms of 64bit VEP projects.

    Is there anyone who is using the MacMini 2.7 GHz dual core Intel Core i7 with 16 GB of memory?

    I like to work with a VEP 64bit metaframe loaded onto a slave machine with typically about 5 projects loaded in that contain various combinations of Omnisphere, ViPro, Trilian etc. I also sometimes concurrently run a 32 bit VEP with about 3 projects with soft synths.

    I am using the MacMini w/16 GB (memory obtained from third party provider OWC) as a slave using VE Pro and have had no problems so far.  (There are problems with Logic and VE Pro, but the new release, 10068, of VEP is supposed to address these.)  In theory, it seems to be an ideal solution, as it's relatively inexpensive, I can use Screen Share on my iMac that has the DAW - so no new monitor required, and it seems faster than my 2.8 GHz iMac.  I have the latest model Mini running Lion.  If your needs expand, you just buy another one, and possibly additional licenses from VSL.  It is also very quiet and small.  There is a study on the web somewhere that compare processor speed vs. number of cores, and number of cores wins over faster processors (up to a point).

    That said, I am not using the MINI with a large template of instruments, so others may give you a better idea of the mini's utility.  You can also search the forum "logicprohelp" (one word), search "MMS",  there is a long discussion of the mini there.
