  • MIR Pro - Change character Presets on the fly

    Hi Dietz and team,

I was playing around with a piece tonight and realized not only can MIR save me on mixing time for placement etc, but I generally find the character presets you have to fill the sound I am looking for.  Is there any way to be able to change those character presets by some sort of program change etc?  During a super quiet passage, the LUSH setting is godly.  Then I can POP them alive instantly with the PURE setting.  This pleases me much more than having to screw with EQ's etc.

Is this possible or can I hope for a wish list update please?

    Thanks!

  • That's an interesting idea! Thanks.

Although this is not how MIR's Instrument Characters were meant to be used, I understand that changing them on the fly could make sense under certain circumstances.

Implementing this feature will need some changes in MIR's engine, though, because right now you would hear some faint clicks and artefacts when selecting a different Character while an instrument is playing. We would have to do some interpolation and/or smoothing to allow for seamless transitions. - But I will add your suggestion to the (ever-increasing) list of feature wishes nonetheless.

Some background information: We have deliberately decided to exclude MIR Icon-related parameters from automation and MIDI remote control (with the exception of volume and dry/wet ratio), because any change to their values will trigger MIR's unique pre-rendering of positional IR-sets. As you know, these calculations will lead to audible artefacts. But as a matter of fact, MIR's Instrument Character is imposed on the dry signal anyway, so it would be possible to add this to the list of valid automation targets.

    Kind regards,
