Thanks.  I've actually already done the things you mentioned.

I had a little success with launching the 32- rather than 64-bit server and starting up the instances one at a time, then saving them.  Interestingly one of the three instances refused to launch, with a message that it was "Invalid."  I closed and re-opened, still in 32-bit mode, starting up that instance by itself, and didn't get the "invalid" message that time, so I saved that instance as well.  However, when i clicked into it to edit a plugin, VEP5 crashed.  At that point I gave up for the evening.

Wondering if I'll be able to get this to work, but possibly if I save the contents of the plugins themselves, then the frames, and open the frames in a new project I can get things going.  But it's still very unclear to me what could be going on.

Ok, am doing so now, thanks.  Will be very interested to hear something concrete about what's causing the crashes and what I can do to prevent them.

I'm now officially advised that this is a known issue causing crashes and general unusability for some users with multiple-monitor setups, and VSL engineers are working on a solution.

I expect I'll roll back to VEP4 until the next rev of VEP5 is released.

I have 4 x monitors [:O]  VEP 5 IS VERY STABLE for me, same with MIR PRO [:D]

Good, that's what it's supposed to do.

I fully expect that the majority of Mac VEP5 users with multiple monitors aren't having problems, but there's a known issue affecting some multi-monitor users that the engineers are working on solving.  I'm one such user, apparently there are some others.

Not sure I understand how you're using MIR if you're all-Mac, since per http://www.viennamir.com/#!system_requirements MIR runs on Windows/Vista 64-bit systems only.

as I just wrote in a support email, it looks isolated to 10.5.X users and multiple monitor setups. Anyone on 10.5.X should really update to minimum 10.6.X, since it performs a lot better.

That's important info, thanks.  On my way to the Apple store now to get a 10.6 disk, update, then proceed to 10.7.  There were some negative reports about minor weirdness with 10.6 re an app or two that I use, and I was waiting for other people to vet 10.7.  You hate to give up a stable setup, which it sounds like 10.5x will no longer be.  Looking forward to resolving the problem.

Re MIR Pro, that's good to know too.  My initial google search sent me to a VSL webpage that led me astray.  I'd actually recommend updating any Windows/Vista -related page like this one: http://www.viennamir.com/#system_requirements to contain a prominent link to MIR Pro for Mac users -- like right at the top:  "Mac users click here."  An OS sniffer could be helpful.  Just a thought.  No doubt if I'd read and navigated your site more carefully I'd have found the correct info.

Just to follow up -- after I installed Snow Leopard, VEP5 began working without a hitch.

It also inexplicably corrected a color-dithering problem I was having with one of my displays.

There is indeed a known bug when using VE Pro 5 in Leopard. We're trying to get it fixed as soon as possible, but at this point the better option is to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion if you're experiencing issues.
