  • MIR Pro for non-orchestral music?

MIR Pro looks fantastic and I am strongly considering getting it.

I am wondering, however, how it works with non-orcjestral music? Does anyone have and ecperience/thoughts on using it with other styles of music (rock, jazz, etc) that require smaller rooms and a more intimate sound than orchestral music?

    Thanks!

Still one of my all-time favorite VSL-demos: -> In A Sentimental Mood

    *******

I used MIR Pro for a folk-pop production recently (imagine a smoother version of Janis Joplin). No samples used at all. All of a sudden I felt like doing "proper soundengineering" instead of just "moving blocks on a screen", because I was thinking in terms of positionss, distance and microphones rather than in numerical abstractions. - I can't post an example due to copyright restrictions, though (... it's unreleased).

  • Thanks Dietz!

And what, may I ask, room(s) did you use?

If anyone has links to other audio examples of non-orchestral music featuring MIR that would be very helpful.

    thx.

  • Dietz,

may also ask how many instances of MIR Pro you believe I'd get with my current setup? I realize it depends a lot on what other plugs/instruments I have loaded, but  a general idea of what i could expect with a modest, medium and a large arrangemebt would be greatly appreciated.

Like noted in the "Description"-field of the VSL music player, the realization of the Ellington-piece took place in ORF Studio 2. I used the considerably wetter, but still very transparent ORF Studio 3 for the folk-pop-piece I mentioned. Both Venues are part of RoomPack 2 – Studios & Sound Stages.

I'm no hardware-guru, and I have to admit that I don't know by heart what a specific Mac-model offers in terms of raw CPU-power (which is the most decisive factor for MIR Pro). The best idea would be to get the free 30 day demo license and see yourself how far you can get. 😊

    Kind regards,

  • Dietz,

Albeit a rather small "sampling" in terms the number of libraries showcased... that is one gorgeous demo! I can't even get over it. I really close my eyes to listen and I'm taken to a whole other place. Wow.

  • Thanks - I share your opinion. :-)

Just a few hours ago I had a friend and colleague listen to "Sentimental Mood" for the first time, and after these six minutes he said, "Uh ... sorry, I forgot to watch out for any technical details ..."

    :-)
