  • Interval

Hi there - figured something out - possibly a Homer S moment (dohhh). What I have been describing as imprecise playing is the sound of the interval patches such as performance legato when a slur is applied in sibelius. The part I am writing would not have nearly the amount of shifting that i can hear - it would all be first position. Is there any way to reduce the volume of, or turn off the interval samples? As I understand it the only single bow stroke patches in solo strings are the interval patches so I have to use them, but just want to hear a simpler version. Cheers, Rangi.

  • Hello Rangi!

You can use the sustain patch instead of legato by either removing the slur or by excluding it from playback. This can be done in the Sibelius 7 inspector by unchecking "Play on pass 1". (Sibelius 6: Window/Properties/Playback/Play on pass 1)

By the way. With our Vienna Instruments Pro player it is possible to make the interval transitions shorter.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • But using a sustain patch will mean the sound of a new bow stroke on each note won't it?

  • ... and while I think of it Andi - there a library update for Solo Strings - what does it change please?

  • Hi Rangi!

Yes, by using the sustain patch you get a new bow stroke with every note. The library updates mainly bring new presets for Vienna Instruments Pro. For the Solo Strings also patches for a second violin are added. If you haven't done so yet, I recommend downloading the latest Library Updates.
