New VSL user - what to get next
Hi all, I recently ordered a VSL key, and downloaded the VSL SE Standard percussion, woodwinds, strings and brass.. now I'm wondering what to get next? I have about $250 and I was wondering what the best progression would be, I've been looking at the extended libraries for the VSL SE strings, brass and woodwinds, particularly the strings and brass, but also looking at the Vienna Instruments Pro 2 sample player... It's kind of overwhelming all the choices, not to mention the VSL SE + libraries... What to do?

Windsurfer,
$250 is not a lot of money in Vienna's world but you get what you pay for. I recently bought the VI Pro 2 player and it is , hands down, the best purchase you could make if you own any VSL libraries. I am having an amazing time making huge layered patches with it. It is a must have as far as I am concerned. I also bought Fanfare trumpets which is a fantastic sound set. To me VSL has always been the Rolls Royce of sample libraries and their new software additions only affirm that these guys are at the top of their game.
Happy Hunting,

Does it make more sense to get a plus library before the extended? Anyone? It depends on whether you want more instruments (=> Special Edition Extended Libraries) or more articulations for the instruments you already have with your Special Edition Standard Libraries (=> Special Edition PLUS Standard Libraries). As you have chosen to get the Download Instruments, you are quite flexible here.
Hope that helps,
Paul

Thanks for the replies guys! Well I definitely want to get the pro version of the sample engine at some point. I think I'm going to grab the extended parts of the special edition and then after some time decide which parts of it I want more articulations of and then get the SE Plus, and at some point in there grab the VI Pro 2. I think with the $$ I have right now I'm going to get the SE Strings extended. I love classical music and the quality of this library is exciting! Happy New Year and Happy composing!

I just found this thread, but I can't help but voice my support for VI Pro 2.0 also. More strings are always a must for me so yes, the strings are important... but if I remember right, the very first purchase I made after the special edition was VI Pro and I now tell everyone who is about to buy VSL to get VI Pro ASAP.
