    Hi

    I find that the sustained string samples in the Special Edition are lacking in attack, even when you set the attack paramaters of the sample player (the basic one that comes free with the orchestra) to the fastest settings.  I've tried a few work-arounds, but all seem to have small but unwanted side-effects.

    Could you give these samples a faster attack if played by the new Pro instrument, or is this something you just have to live with?

    with VI PRO you get the option to move the samplestart around 50 MS, and this option is also controllable via a midicontroller of your choice. Combining this fetaure with sustains offers faster attacks when necessary.

    Another option is to layer staccato samples with sustains. With VI PRO it's also possible to control volume of a 2nd layer independently (in this case staccatos) via any midicontroller on the fly.

    I find the best way to handle the sustain attack issue is to stack is with a staccato in the second slot, and then blend it in with the mixer in VI pro.  As Herb has also pointed out to you.

    I've found that's what they hold out for the extended lib. Marcato legato. The thing is, with a marcato, you can change the sample start to lessen the attack....but, taking a slow attack string sample and changing the start time does nothing. Maybe different libraries are different, but with the Chamber strings--definitely the case.
