  • Going mad...MIR pro?

Yes...I'm still thinking of buying MIR pro. I don't have the money just to buy off everything I want and there are two main concerns about why I havent made my mind up yet:

First; my PC setup is WIN7 64bit with Cubase 6, Intel Core i7 960 3,20GHz, 24GB RAM...so for my worldview ( [8-|] ) it's a good one, BUT will it be enough? I do know that only to use a demo will tell me that of course, but what do you guys use and is it working for you?

Second; I have Vienna Suite, Epic horns (complete dl version), trombones (complete dl version) and VSL WW spec.ed with some complete individual dl ww's. I love VSL woodwinds!! BUT for percs I use Spitfire, for brass Cinesamples, for strings LASS+LASS LS, Spitfire harp and albion etc. My concern is that there are people who says that they don't sound good in MIR..is it so? Could someone post a demo? Just even a basic one?

Downloading a demo and learning how to use it and getting it to work will take time...

I try to forget MIR pro many times, but then for some reason I go and do a stupid thign like listen Adventures on Earth by JW and I'm sold again...damn! [:)] What I'm basicly trying to ask here: Is it possible to get that sound (Adventures on Earth) by using other libraries than VSL?

Thanks for reading this rambling post.

  • Hi,

I´m using a Mac Pro 8 core @2.26 GHz with 24 GB RAM and I´ve just bought Vienna Ensemble 5 with MIR Pro and from what I experienced so far it runs very well on my machine and I don´t see a reason to get a slave for it. I haven´t had the time to use it with a bigger template because I just don´t have one yet :) I´m in the process of building my first serious template at the moment and I also use Spitfire Percussion + Harp as my main orchestral percussion and Harp and Cinebrass (incl. Pro) as my main brass. I´ve tried using LASS in my template, too, but I decided to go the Vienna way for strings and bought VSL Solo, Chamber and Appassionata Strings incl. Extended recently and I totally love their sound. Woodwinds are VSL, too. My first impression when using other libs that have a room "baked" in like Cinebrass or Spitfire in MIR Pro: It works very well. I have their stereo widths in MIR Pro on the widest possible position to leave as much of their original panning intact and play with the distance to the mic at the moment (the closer to the mic the wider their original stereo field) and I play with the amount of MIR room for those libs - I´m still experimenting a lot but my first impression: it´s an awesome tool to blend different libs together.

In VE 5 Pro I decided to put the MIR room sound on a separate bus as well as the enhancing MIRacle reverb that comes with VE 5 Pro. So I'm able to specifiy MIR room and reverb for each instrument/lib seperately and thus give libs that have already some room baked in a little less MIR room. I tried to use the dry mic setting in Cinebrass and Spitfire, too, but finally decided to leave their complete original room/hall signal intact and just gave them some less MIR room.

I can only recommend getting the VE 5 Pro/MIR Pro demo and try it - it´s no rocket science and I was able to get along with it in about 4-5 hours or so.

  • Hilarious, I was trying to help one person and accidentally posted in your post an answer that will leave you completely confused haha!  Sorry for the mishap :)  I will delete my post since it has no relativity to your questions.  :)

  • Hah..I was wondering about that message when it came to my email Maestro2be [;)]

Yeah..I will dl the demo and try it out. If it turns out to be what I'm hoping to get I will buy the damn thing [:)]

  • Hi EwigWanderer,

Thanks for your interest in MIR Pro! I would say that you should be quite happy with your machine - as a matter of fact my development machine is similar (i7-965 XE 3.20GHz Quad-Core with 12 GB RAM and a RME Hammerfall DSP for audio).

I don't know who said that other libraries don't sound good within MIR - chances are that these people didn't even hear it themselves. ;-) ... we had a very interesting thread in this forum just recently, where actual users shared their first-hand impressions:
