  • HELP : Trying MIR PRO with Logic 9.1.6

    Dear Dietz

    I use Logic pro 9.1.6

I want to modify my setup that consist of one VE PRO server that contains 8 VE PRO 5 with VI pro 2  ;  2 VE Pro for the strings + 2 for brass + 2 for winds + 1 for percussions and 1 for various inst (piano, celesta, organ ....)

All that is about a 100 instruments

I  have download in authorize MIR

I have setup my hall and a 5.1 mic

    Now I am stuck !!!

The video and the manual are only speaking of the creation of a new VE PRO

How can you add the instrument that are already defined in the VE in the hall ?

I do not understant why I have to setup MIR 8 times (one by VE PRO)

Is it now possible to have my 100 instruments in one VE pro 5 with Logic 9?

Where do you setup 5.1 in the VE ?

In the last newletter you are speaking of a surprise for MIR PRO buyers ; when are you going to annouce the surprise ?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Best

    Cyril

  • Hi Cyril,

as a matter of fact, the basic concept of MIR is to have one instance where all signals come together on one stage (look at it as a mixing console). But nothing will hinder you from using 8 VE Pro instances, as long as you have them on the same machine.

You have to start VE Pro a 5.1 configuration to use surround formats (or convert an existing VI Frame using the dedicated conversion command in the File menu). In MIR Pro you will have to select one of the preset surround output formats then, or you create your own.

Like stated in the manual, instruments which are already opened in a VE Pro project can be routed to a MIR Pro Venue by simply adding the MIR Pro plugin to a channel

That said, I doubt that you will be able to run 100 individual instruments (a.k.a. "Icons" in MIR) in surround on one system, even on your quite powerful machine. (... let's see ... that would be around 1200 convolutions to handle - the equivalent to 600 Vienna Suite Convolution Reverbs ... :-/ ). Maybe you should start with a smaller stereo test project first and see how far you can get.

... and regarding your last question: It's part of a surprise that it should be - well - surprising. 8-)

how can you do that in Logic, it is limited to 16 midi

by any chance do you have the page, is it in the VSL mixer ?

P.19 of MIR Pro's Preliminary Manual:

"As soon as the option “Auto-add Vienna MIR” is activated by clicking on the rightmost icon in VE Pro's Main Menu bar, instruments can also be added by rightclicking MIR's Venue Map.

... many routing examples are available in the Tutorial section from p. 33 onwards.

  • Hello Dietz

    Thanks for your answer

Things are progressing I have :

    - merge my 8 x VE, defined it to be a 5.1 VE PRO 5 of 91 x VI PRO 2 and set the Midi port and Midi channel

    - Set the I/O plug-ins in Logic on my 8 x 16 instrument

When I want to assign the VE in Logic, my 5.1 server does not show or I am getting an error message saying it is incompatible

For a 5.1 MIR project with 91 x VI PRO 2, how Logic should be set, how the VE/MIR parameter should be set

    Thanks in advance

    Best

    Cyril

  • Cyril, did you actually read my last message? I don't think that your computer will be able to handle 100 (or 91) instruments in a MIR Pro surround setup.

  • Actually Logic opens a 5.0 AU when you select 5.1 for some reason. So the project needs to be 5.0 to be able to connect. The channel configuration of the VE Pro plugin is displayed on its GUI for clarity for that reason.

    Hello Dietz

My project is my global orchestral template, there are 91 defined instruments but a song may use 40 or 50 ( hope that Mir is only using power of the track that are actually only used, Like Logic ! .i.e. if a track is defined but sends no Midi it does not use CPU cycles

    -

The exercice is to see if it can work without having to use my second Macpro and if I will buy MIR of course !

Mir is s luxury that Santa may put in my sockets !

    -

Without Mir I was using about 15 % load playing my test song on my 24 threaded Macpro with the raid 0 of SSD

    -

So if you could tell me what AU I have to put in Logic so it sees my 5.1 VE Pro MIR with the 91 VE and what "MIR" parameter I have to put in my big VE

    -

    Thanks

  • Hello Karel

The Logic project I am converting to MIR is a 5.1 project, all the tracks are set with the "surround" "joystick", do i have to remove this and put them in stereo ?

What AU do I have to use so Logic sees my 5.1 VE PRO MIR i.e. what MIR parameter I have to put in each VI so it is a 5.1 project ?

    Many thanks

    Best

    Cyril

  • Hello again Karel and Dietz

If I set Logic to :

    - Vienna Ensemble pro event input stereo, when I want to assign, the 5.1 VE does not show

    - Vienna Ensemble pro surround, when I assign to the 5.1 VE I get an error saying it is incompatible

If you want to connect to my setup using Ichat there is no problem, I can be connected at 9 am my user is "cyrillindablanc"

  • Hi Cyril,

Please send me your template and Logic project to  , so I can see how far you have managed to go already, and we´ll take it from there!

    Best, Marnix

  • Hello Marnix

I have manage to use my Logic project ; at the moment I am on 5.0,

    It is very tricky

    What I did :

    1. Lauch my logic song
    2. I assign my 1st VE PRO to VE PRO Surround
    3. Lauch VE pro server
    4. Assign the string -> it created a VE almost empty
    5. I have add an instrument
    6. I select the VE
    7. I load my big template so the almost empty VE is replaced by my big template
    8. then I set the rest of my VE pro  to "Event input stereo" [;)] BINGO !!!! ET ça MARCHE
    9. then I have set all the VE mixer to Vienna MIR PRO / stereo to 5.0

NOW ALL INSTRUMENTS ARE PLAYING !!!!!! GREAT

Next step is a 5.1 and solving  "hanging note problem" with 30 /45 % CPU load and I play ONLY 17 instrument  at a time

    Best
