  • Strange latency problem i Sibelius with VE Pro

Hi Andy! I'm a teacher at an academy in Sweden, and we're experiencing strange problems. When using VE Pro in Sibelius, quite often there's a glitch from when you press a notehead in Sibelius (which makes it playback) until it's actually played back. The delay is around 1 second from when you press the notehead until it's played back, and it seems that VE isn't recieving the note until it's played back, so it's nothing internal in VE Pro. I'm using 5 instances of VE Pro. I've tried all buffer settings, both in the ASIO settings and in VE Pro. When switching to another playback configuration, the delay disappears. This is extremly annoying since this affects the "repeat note" command for instance, changing octave on a series of notes has the same delay, and other stuff. Any ideas?

  • System: Intel Core i7 (8 threads) 16GB RAM 256GB SSD Windows 7 64-bit, with Sibelius 7.0.3. Latest version of everything.

  • Hello snattack!

Could it be, that you are not using the ASIO driver in this problematic Playback Configuration?

Anyway, it seems that this problem is caused by Sibelius. Maybe the Sibelius support team can be of better help here.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi, Thanks for your reply. It can't be the ASIO-driver, I've tried them all (everything from true ASIO to emulation through MME and all). Also, Vienna Ensemble (not pro) works better. Using the same playback configuration and adding the Vienna Ensemble Pro instance makes this behaviour. Can it be network related? That VE Pro for some reason sends conformation that the note is played back? I'm pretty sure Sibelius support team would say it's an issue with Vienna since only VE Pro behaves like this.

  • I've traced the problem to the sound set. When entirely removing the soundset, the problem goes away, but reinserting it makes it all slower again. It seems as also the Sibelius Standard Soundset makes it a tiny bit slower, but not fast as Vienna. This also applies to the Vienna Ensemble (not pro) when looking deeper into it.

  • Hi snattack!

Thanks for reporting. I guess there is nothing we can do about it then.

    Best,
    Andi
