    Is it possible to have more than one microphone in your setup in Mir Pro? Such as a Decca setup, some Wide mics and some close mics at the same time?

    thanks for your interest in MIR Pro!

    From an audio engineer's point-of-view, MIR Pro is based on the typical idea of a main microphone array in the hall and spot- or close mics near single instruments or groups of them. The spot-mics are the dry signals put on a MIR Pro Venue. MIR Pro's wet signal is the part that would be derived from the main microphone.

    MIR Pro's Main Microphone is a crucial aspect of the whole engine, as everything is handled in respect to this reference point - technically as well as regarding MIR Pro's GUI. It is highly important to understand that within MIR _all_ audio data (impulse reponses _and_ dry signals!) are handled in a 4-channel meta-format called Ambisonics. This format is extremly powerful: It allows for free rotation of an arbitrary number of individually shapeable virtual microphone capsules, and it gives us the chance to interplolate between the single IR-positions on a stage.

    Ambisonics is a coincident microphone setup by definition. We can (and do! 😉 ...) decode a multitude of different microphone setups from our multi impulse responses, e.g. Blumlein (crossed fig.8), M/S, Triple-8, X/Y, and tailor-made formats that are not easy to achieve in the real world. Using some clever processing, we can even mimic near-coincidence formats like ORTF and the like. We can _not_ create widely spaced microphone arrays, though: Using a spaced setup (like a Decca tree or spaced omnis), MIR Pro would have to have one fixed output format, and fixed stage positions for any signal source.

    That said, MIR Pro will receive an update soon that will supply a feature that I'm really looking forward to: The possibility to use a Secondary Microphone in any chosen Venue, e.g. for having additional ambience from a microphone array far away from the stage, which can even be aimed at the back of the hall. Sound-wise, this will allow for even more spatial "envelopping".

    BTW ... there is a little addendum to MIR Pro's manual available for download in your user area, which is meant to cover some of this background information: Think MIR!

    Awesome!!! Any ETA when this will be available (more one week or more some months) 😉? Will this have a double impact on used memory or CPU usage?

    Basically it's already implemented, but not refined enough (let alone tested) for a release. I would say - early 2012.

    As far as I can say from today's POV, a Secondary Microphone will increase RAM consumption, but won't need more CPU power necessarily - due to MIR Pro's "Positional Pre-rendering" of individual IRs.

    Oh my god Dietz this feature is going to be awesome!  I posted yesterday in another post how hard it is to get a pure clean bright close and intimate sound for me.  Last night I realized it was me, not MIR.  I got it right using the Schubertsaal (I was using to big of a room before).  Having this additional mic in the middle of the audience is going to make my recordings so better than ever because I won't have to fiddle with an additional tail reverb.

    I really appreciate all the hardwork into this application and can't wait for this feature!  Thanks again Dietz and everyone else involved in the creation of this application!
