  • How to add a 3rd party plugin to an instance of VE Pro

Still lost after 96 hours studying the manual over and over. It feels like I'm building a car in order to drive it . I wish someone had written Vienna Ensemble Pro for Dummies as in the famed book series for people like me. I stand little chance here . I finally after a number of days and by blind luck have an instance created in which I activated the solo cello and named this instance 'strings' for learning and practice. It does play on my keyboard but only because I accidentally selected at output on the track in Cubase - ensemble pro. Now I see I can add another channel but have no idea how to add for example a violin. I also added a track in Cubase and loaded the VSTi pianoteq and yes it plays but I have no clue as to how to have that recognized in EPro. Does it need another instance? Is it added to the existing one? I can't imagine that I would need 20 instances or it would defeat the whole purpose. I think I got in way over my head with this software and maybe should just stick with cubase and add many namy instances of vienna instuments perhaps. I am NOT a pessimist ! : ) just way in over my head with emsemble pro

    Hello AnthonyH,

sorry to hear that you are having such troubles.

The basic idea of Vienna Ensemble PRO is to give you a host for your virtual instruments.

Each instrument takes one channel in Vienna Ensemble PRO. The Channel Overview section in the VE PRO 4 Manual (page 20) shows you how to select the incoming MIDI PORT and MIDI Channel for each channel.

If you are using VST3 with Cubase, you can get up to 32*16 MIDI Channels in one instance. Just as an information for later.

Let´s start from here. Please take a look and let me know which steps in the manual do not work for you, so that we have a common reference.

You can also contact me at with additional screenshots of where you are stuck, that might make our conversation more effective.

Stay positive, I´m sure we can make this work 😊

    Best,

    Paul
