    When I try to instantiate VE Pro 5 on my 64 bit windows machine, the VST plugin tester is trying to test all the programs on my C: drive. Is there a way to abort this process so I can scan only the plugin folders on that drive or to reset my preferences so it does not scan the entire program drive. I have tried uninstal/reinstall several times with no luck. Thanks...

    You can reset the preferences by deleting the file "C:\ProgramData\VSL\Vienna Ensemble Pro.ini". Note that C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder, so you may have to enable hidden files and folders in Explorer temporarily. This is on Windows 7 and Vista.

    Thanks Karel but that didn't fix the problem. It is Testing VST plugins at one per second. Some names of plugs it is testing: spwmp,sqlwid, stobject, tcpipconfig, etc. Uninstalling and deleting the .ini file don't seem to erase whatever it is that is causing this behavior. My 32 bit machine is chugging along happily with VE Pro 5. Is there a more thorough uninstall I can do? Some change in the registry?

    Try removing/changing this key in the Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST\VstPluginsPath. That's the only thing I can think of that could cause this behavior.

    Karel - I can only imagine the technical world that must be inside your head! Thanks for your help - everything is now working fine and I ended up not needing to change the registry. After again removing the ini. file I simply re-started and removed the C: drive from the Directory Manager and it allowed the program to run to the point where I could redirect the plugin preferences to only scan my program folders on the C: drive... et voila! As someone who knows very little about PC's I very much appreciate this kind of patience and persistance in customer support... thanks again.

    You shouldn't just use your Program Files folder though (the scan may take forever that way). Choose a specific folder to install your VST plugins. A good standard location is "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2" for 64-bit plugins and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2" for 32-bit plugins.
