    I'm completely new and I would appreciate a simple answer to this issue: Before VSL I used to use Giga GVI as plugins and others and it was always load an instance and there are your 16 midi channels available for each instance. In Vienna Instruments I am learning the patch and matrix system well enough but don't understand the simplest part of all. How are midi channels assigned ? I know you don't likely need a new instance for each channel and matrix ? I use Cubase 5 . Thanks for any assistance.

    . I just saw answers in the related category here. I have Ensemble Pro 4 and apparently that will allow me to do the separate midi channels ? Just trying to grasp the basics here.

    Welcome AnthonyH,

    VE PRO is a multi-timbral MIDI host, that´s correct.

    The MIDI Ports and MIDI Channels can be set on top of each instrument channel in VE PRO.

    Here is a link to the VE PRO 4 manual, which will give you a good overview, with screenshots and explanations.

    If I might make a suggestion...consider the paradigm change of having on VI instance for a section(say violins)-and you load every articulation for the section you need and switch internally via keyswitches or controllers-whatever. 

    With Giga, sure you have the one instance...but, within there, I always ended up with 4-5 channels used for various violin articulations...several cello, etc--end of the day, I now have a VI instance for each section. Makes it easy mentally...for me at least. Add to that cubase's vst expression system...and it's quite a flexible well organized solution-I don't have to keep opening up the sampler to see which section/articulation is loaded on what channel. 

    Anyway-something to consider.
