  • Sound Set problem reusing SoundIDs in Sibelius into Logic via IAC.

Hello, I'm routing midi data from Sibelius into Logic via an IAC bus. In Sibelius I have 2 instruments (Violin 1 and Violin 2) and have configured a manual sound set using VE Special Edition (I'm using the Special Edition 21S Strings violin matrix). Violin 1 is assigned to Ch 1 and Violin 2 to Ch 2 of IAC Bus 1 and both are using strings.violin.ensemble as the Sound ID. I'd like to use the channel splitter configuration in logic so I have IAC Bus 1 going into a splitter and Ch 1 going to the Violin 1 instrument in Logic and Ch 2 going to the Violin 2 instrument. The Violin 1 instrument has a Vienna Instrument AU input with the Special Edition 21S Strings violins matrix loaded in and the Violin 2 instrument has the same thing loaded as it's au input. I have a bar of quarter notes with the first being a note without any modification (I'm assuming it should be sustain by default?), the next having 'pizz' as a Technique message, the next having arco and the last being staccato by putting the staccato dot on the note. When playing back the articulations get all out of whack and mostly get stuck on pizz and sometimes Violin 1 gets played back on Violin 2's Vienna Instrument. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated. Duane Andrews

  • Hello Duane!

Have you tried loading Vienna Ensemble directly with Sibelius? Does it work then?

I'm not exaxtly sure, what you are trying to do. Have you tried using Rewire in order to connect Sibelius with Logic?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi, Thanks for the reply. I'm working on getting an orchestral template in shape and I'd like to use Sibelius as a sequencer for inputting the notes and use Logic as the sound engine so the IAC Bus is used to get the midi data into Logic. I'm thinking the approach I'm starting with may be unorthodox and after trolling the forum I see many people using the Ensemble method as opposed to the Instrument method. I was starting with Instruments because I liked how there was more independence when working with the sounds in Logic but I just read about how using Ensemble as a multi-instrument could have similar independence by using aux strips for each midi channel so I'll give that a try. I also found that if I put Violin 2 on a different IAC Bus it seems to work fine with my original configuration. Duane

Has the VSL/Logic/Sibelius setup been done successfully? Having a hard time finding definite instructions. Will there be a video on this over and above the existing Sibelius/VSL video? hint hint ;)

  • Hello umarekawaru!

Our software has nothing to do with a possible Logic-Sibelius connection, so we won't make a video for that. Vienna Instruments or Vienna Ensemble will simply be loaded as a plugin in one of these programs. Anyway, if you want to connect Sibelius with Logic, I recommend doing so with Rewire.

    Andi
