  • Do I need two Vienna keys for using Ensemble Pro on 2 Macs?

The Vienna Ensemble Pro software arrived today - hurray!   I totally forgot though that I need a vienna key.

I want to run Vienna Ensemble Pro on two Macs.  Do I need two keys ?  On my main Mac there is no free USB port available anymore since I use the I-Lok key on that machine (which I think my Vienna SE and SEplus was authorized with??).

    Do I need two keys?

    Thank you

  • you need a key for each Mac

  • You couldn't have authorised any VSL product with iLok. You must have used a Vienna/Steinberg/elicenser key for that. however, Cyril is correct; you need a key for each machine that you want to use VSL products on. If you have run out of USB ports, you will need a USB hub. On Mac it is generally recognised that this needs to be a powered hub.

You haven't said exactly how you're setting it up? I use the Vienna Ensemble Pro RTAS plugin in Pro Tools on my master Mac, and the VEP Server 64/32 bit applications on my VI slave Mac, and for this configuration you only need a key for the slave.

I intend to run the Ensemble Pro software mainly on my Slave computer in order to host 3rd party Virtual instruments such as Omnisphere, BFD2, Kontakt and probably my VSL SE/SEplus/extended library (if it is not too big of a hassle to move it to the slave computer).

I would also like to have Ensemble pro on my Master computer to address all the memory I have when I have to run Logic Pro in 32bit mode (which I usually run in 64 bit mode).  Maybe one key on the slave is enough for this kind of setup?

    Thank you!

  • Nope, you need two keys for this sort of set-up. However, it is always a good idea to have a spare key anyway.

  • I guess I have to buy two keys then.  You're right a spare key can't hurt.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Is it possible for me to install the VEPro software that just came in a box and use it/get familliar with it until the vienna keys arrive and then once activated I continue to use it just now with the official authorization?  I think it says in the describtion that it is a demo until the keys are active.

  •  No, the software won't work without the key.

  • Thanks for the info!  I will wait then.
