  • VSL special edition plus H-SPAN keyswitch trouble with Logic 9

HI, I'm new to VSL (Day 1) and am using Logic 9.1.4 and VSL special Edition on a MacPRO 8 core, with an M-audio KeyRig 49. I created the Logic Project by importing an orchestral score MIDI file from Finale 2010b into Logic's "Blank" project. On each track in Logic, I assigned the AU Instrument to be Vienna Instruments, then clicked on the I/O and up came the VI server interface window. I clicked on the Show Window button and got the Vienna Instruments Plugin window. While in each plugin window, I selected Presets for most of the tracks (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet etc) but for the strings I chose a Matrix from the Orchestra (e.g. 21s Violins or 22s Violins+). I added a note between C1-B1 into the violin track at the beginning before any violin notes, but the note is not causing an H-SPAN change in the Violin instrument. Also, when I play on the KeyRig with the Violin VI Plugin window open, it does not cause a horizontal cell / column change either. I looked on the logic window to see what pitches the key rig was sending, and also tried moving the octaves around just incase VSL and Logic had a different idea of what octave is '1'. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Update, it turns out to be a wrong octave issue, but I'm not ure why it is so. I have to put the keyswitches in the wrong octave to get them to be recognized.

You are using C3 for Middle C, but VSL uses the Scientific Pitch notation standard, which has C4 as Middle C. Neither are wrong. You just have to know that both exist, because products by other companies may use C3 for Middle C.
