dynamics expression midi commands for drums

i'm still trying to work out the crescendo problem for the snares and cymbals in Sibelius. i tried out what is written in the "optimizing sibelius playback" manual about controlling the dynamics of rolls with midi commands C11 ( also using the sibelius plugin ). This is not really satisfactory because all what happens in a crescendo is that the soft sample gets gradually louder without crossfading to the louder samples. is there something I have to do with the velocity crossfade?

Another thing. 

A normal strike after a roll sounds strange. You still hear the fading out of the roll sample ( sounds like a little rebound ). There is one way to solve this problem by shortening the length of the roll note with a couple of ticks in the playback menu. This tweaking needs a lot of time though.

To make a normal strike after a roll sound good, you could do one of the following things:
- Shorten the roll as you have done.
- Turn off the release sample for the roll. This can be done generally for the whole patch or automated with a MIDI command.

Thank-you for your suggestions and advice. I've tried out what you mentioned and it works[;)]

i'm sorry for having asked similar questions. I guess I got stuck on my problem and I've been spending too much time trying to find a solution on my own which is making me quite tired.

But to be honest it would be  easiest if one could just place a whole note ( a snare roll for example) until the next bar and just place a crescendo line underneath it without having to do so much tweaking around[*-)].

It would also be nice if sibelius could have divisi playing pizz. and arco ( see the score of debussy "la Mer" bar 31) in the same staff. And it would be great to trigger two different articulations for Marimba and Harp and even for Solo violin playing a left hand pizz and using the arco on another string. It's a shame if a composer and an arranger cannot enjoy your beautiful samples when he is limited by these things. Don't you think so?[:^)]

Hello Dave!

I agree with your suggestions. However, none of them is in our hands. To make them possible, Sibelius would need some changes.

Every sound set file contains the Sound IDs of the instruments and available articulations. You can either open them with a text editor or with the Sibelius Sound Set Editor, which can be downloaded here:

Cool! Thanks for the sound set file hint. That's exactly what I was looking for.[:D]

Now I can create my own new special sound assignments in the sibelius library.I got the four stroke ruff  triggered with the +ruff3 sound ID now.[:)]

About Sibelius: I shall contact sibelius and inform them on the things I mentioned to you in my last thread.
