  • Cross-Fade in Dimension Brass

    Hello Everyone,

Actually, this question isn't limited to Dimension Brass, but all of the libraries. Do dynmaic patches (ones with built-in crescendos and dimenuendos), override the settings of the velocity cross-fade controller? It seems like they should. However, when I tested it, it seemed as though changes in the velocity cross-fade did affect the dynamic patches a bit, although it was slight?

Is it recommended to turn velocity cross-fade off when using dynamic patches or does it not make a difference?

    Thanks for your help.

  •  Hi Corte,

generally dynamic samples do not override crossfades. There are just a real performed dynamic changes in the wav file.

If the dynamic samples do have only one layer, like sfz, fp, there is no real effect using velocity crossfades. There is just a small volume change, but no timbre change.

With dynamics samples with more than one 1 layer, like the crescendo and diminuendo samples, you get a crossfade between these two layers.

For example the lower dynamic layer of a crescendo sample starts at pp and goes to mf, the higher layer from mp to ff.

If you do a crossfade you could achieve a kind of pp - ff crescendo.
