  •  Hi Cyril,

did you already checked out the video "Time Stretching – Staccatissimo and more"?

    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/497/537/1456/1481/1570.htm

In a nutshell, you can make short articulations shorter or longer, alter the length of crescendo/diminiuendo samples, adjust the speed of recorded runs or other phrases.

  • Hi Herb

Thanks for the link, I did not see it before

How much disk space does it cost ? Is it permanent disk space ?

  • Hi Cyril,

Time-strectching creates new patches, the size depends on the stretch factor.

These files are stored in the location you assign in the Directory Manager of VI PRO, and it´s permanent disk space. Of course you can delete these patches via the patch browser in VI PRO.

  • Hi Paul!

A question on this ... (sorry Cyril for abusing your thread but it just fits)

I did some stretches on my patches. I can understand that the first time when this is stretched it is taking quite long, however even in later loads i have to wait quite long and get "Stretching" in the status bar of VI Pro.Is this expected behaviour (and actually means "loading of stretched samples") or some problem on my side?

    Thanks in advance

    Gabriel

  • In my opinion itwould be great to implement a "real time" - time stretching and pitch shifting algorythm in VI pro. This would cost some CPU, of course and the stretched parts would have to be loaded into RAM, AFAIK.

But the advantage of having realtime control over the short note length and legato transitions is worth it!

Native Instruments just announced Version 5 of Kontakt. The new times machine pro algo does a real fabulous job, judging by the demo on their website! Unfortunately, there is no indication of a "pitch machine pro".

Number one on my wish list for a future VI pro updat is: a great sounding pitch and time algorythm for:

    - real sounding (formant corrected) pitch bend

    - real time length control of short notes and legato transitions

Unfortunately, these are not on the upcoming VI pro 2.0 update feature list ...

  • Hi Fritz,

we prefer to keep the CPU load as low as possible, to allow everybody to get the best out of their system (not everybody has the latest greatest computer).

Cyril, The extra loading time is necessary and normal with time-stretched patches.

    Paul

Well, of yourse it would be possible to switch it on or off, to spare your CPU ... [:P]
