    Hello What is the advantage of using the timpani single hit patch over one of the perf repetition patches? Seems to me the perf-rep patches have more round-robins. Thanks

     The single Timpani hits have more velocity layers, Timpani A for example has 8 velocity layers, where as the perf-rep only have 4 layers. The perf-rep patches do have twice as many repetitions, and they have a slightly longer release as well, so the two patches do have different applications where needed.

    What I have wondered though, is what is the purpose of the AB switch on the timpani,"alternate Left/Right", because I cannot hear any difference at all using the AB switch, except if you use the B position on Timpani A Single Hits in the upper octaves, there is no sound at all with B - just the A position only

     The main difference between single hits and the repetition patches is, that the repetitions are hit on a ringing instrument,

    the character of all hits (except the first one) should be slightly different compared to using single hits.

    The A/B switch offers two differentmappings, with A switch active you have the left and right hand hits split in two regions on the keyboard,

    so you can perform analog to a timpani player, one hand (finger) is the left mallet, and the other one the right mallet,

    If you need a more accurate notation in your score, you can use B switch, here you get automatically left/right hand alternations on the same key. Usually this kind of mapping is more difficult to perform on a keyboard.
