Create registrations in Konzerthaus Organ
Hello, I wanted to ask how it's possible to create own organ registrations with more than two patches? Because I saw that the prebuilt registrations contain so much patches like Principal 8' + Octave 4' + Cymbel 3' + Trumpet 16' + Trumpet 8' and so on. But when I want to create a big registration, I only have two patches I can load simultaneously. Or is there a way to do it? I thank you very much for your help!

Welcome CVenest,
the easiest way to create your own registrations is to use our free Vienna Ensemble host for Vienna Instruments: -> http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1347/336.vsl
Just add an Vienna Instrument player for any organ stop you plan to use for your registration into as many channels as you want (and your system is able to handle), and make sure that they are all set to the same MIDI-input (port and channel). Now you can combine stops on the fly on behalf of either the Mute-button of the channel, or the Bypass-function of the VI (if you want to save computing and/or disk streaming power). You can now even change the relative volume between the individual stops easily.
... look at Vienna Ensemble as your dedicated registration control field. :-)

I create my organ combinations using VI Pro, it allows upto 8 stops to be layered, each with level control, and allows this combination to be saved as a single matrix, then I use the VE Pro channels to recreate the manuals, though you can still do this with VE.
So I would recommending upgrading to VI Pro, it will make using the organ library so much easier and flexible. You can even use the humanize function on a single rank of pipes, for that less than perfectly tuned organ sound, which used subtly can be effective.

Hello,
I create registrations for the KH Organ as follows, using VE:
- a channel is set up for each of the manuals (channels 1 through 4, for Manuals I, II, III and Pedal)
- each channel receives a bus (called Manual I, II, III and Pedal respectively)
- each bus gets an instrument for each of the available stops; this means that bus "Manual I" receives 16 different instruments, corresponding tot the 16 available stops, bus "Manual II" receives 14 instruments, etc.
- for each manual/pedal, I can now make a registration, by turning a stop on or off, like on a real organ, by switching the corresponding instrument on or off.
This way, I can make plenum registrations, with all registers on if I want (although this doesn't make musical sense of course).
Question: what MIDI signal should I send from my sequencer to VE in order to switch on/off an instrument (instead of doing it manually?) I'm using Finale 2010, but I guess the MIDI instructions to control VE are independent of the sequencer used.
Thanks for any assistance, Robrecht

This has been discussed before. One could create an interface that imitates the actual console of the organ. Perhaps that would be good to do, but the problem is it makes no difference with the actual sounds involved. All pipes of this organ have been recorded and are totally accessible, instantly, by means of keyswitches. Also, you can layer an unlimited number of stops, to create absolutely any registration of your imagination.
A live pipe organ player studies very carefully which stops are appropriate for each piece he is playing and carefully prepares what he is going to use. This can all be done with the current Konzerthaus organ, with Vienna Instruments/Ensemble.
Though I do not disagree that it would be nice to have a wood-grain emulation of the actual console - which is the sole advantage of hauptwurk by the way - though in terms of actual sounds, it makes absolutely no difference.
Also, if you have to use a separate approach to arranging the organ part, based on a different interface, will that fit into the orchestral system created by VSL? It is convenient and familiar to use the same patch switching system for organ as the other instruments.
